Woke up early to the sounds of fireworks and a mariachi band - at 5am so wasn't best pleased; however the other guys on the tour had barely slept because of a corrugated tin roof so best not to say too much!
Made our way early on to Tikal which was an hour drive from Flores. Tikal is one of the most amazing sets of ruins in Guatemala, and probably even of all the Mayan ruins, as they are set in the jungle and its a huge complex which spraws out for miles. We spent most of the morning looking round, and even clibed up 2 of the temples so we could see out above the canopy to some of the other ruins which poke out the top of the trees - it was stunning, if not a bit scary because they're not that big on health and safety round here so didn't feel very safe, but i'm still here!
After leaving there we made our way to a restayrant with a pool for lunch -woo hoo!! Then set about crossing the boarder into Belize, and then travelling onto San Ignacio.
The boarder crossing was an experience, it seemed really strange going from Spanish speaking, to English speakers in Belize - especially going through customs and immigration. They didn't seem too bothered though, they asked if we had anything to declare so we told them about a bottle of rum, but they didn't check it and let us through anyway - they're so relaxed and it has a real Carribbean vibe to the place.
Once again, got set up at the hotel and made our way swiftly to the bar and pool for yet more cocktails! It was a really warm evening so had a swim then dinner, all by the pool - i could get used to this!!
