This morning we got a bit of a lie in, it didnt help that our room didnt have a window so we had no idea how light it was outside. I headed out and found a walking tour of Merida town centre so had a history lesson - in both Spanish and English. I dont think the guide could have spoken any faster if he tried so how much of the tour we all understood was limited!!
We had to be back at the hotel by 11.45am for our trip out to the Cenotes this afternoon. So our bus came to collect us, then we made our way out about an hour to where we got our next form of transport.... they looked like tuktuks but with pedal bikes attached not motorised - and the boys driving them couldnt have been much older than about 17yrs!! They were definately an experience, so we had a 4km ride in these before being transfered to these funny looking horse and carts to take us the rest of the way to the Cenotes.
The first one we visited was quite busy with other tour groups, but the water was crystal clear and really blue - so beautiful! We jumped straight in and had a good chance for a swim, the water was about 24m deep so no touching the bottom, and i´d dread to think what could have been lurking underneath!!
The other two were even better than the first, each one was more secluded and beatiful than the others - i suppose they do them in that order because of that. Definately would recommend it to anyone as it was one of the highlights of the trip so far.
When we got back to Merida that night we decided to had a takeaway and some beers on the roof - the view was pretty cool although it decided to rain so that wasnt so good until we found some shade. We had a great evening, demolishing the pizzas and the alcohol too!! Some of the group were so funny, it was hilarous - although not sure i can repeat some of the things that were said (not by me, i must add!!).
