We left San Cristobel fairly early on monday and headed off for the bus station to take us back into Guatemala and onto Panajachel. The bus jounrey was nowhere near as bad as the previous one but we had to stop at the Mexican / Guatemalan border to pass through immigration etc. It was boiling hot, but the border crossing is one of the most intense things i´ve seen. There was people everywhere, trying to take our bags, or herd us onto their tuktuks - craziness!! ...

Woke up early to the sounds of fireworks and a mariachi band - at 5am so wasn't best pleased; however the other guys on the tour had barely slept because of a corrugated tin roof so best not to say too much! Made our way early on to Tikal which was an hour drive from Flores. We left Antigua early this morning, and made our way out towards Rio Dulce which is a little town on a lake. On the way we stopped off at Quiriga, which is a set of Mayan ruins just off the highway. Its only one of the smaller ruins but there were still quite a few sculptures and some of them were amazingly well preserved, lots of altars and zoomorphs!! (pictures will be here soon).
