Hi all, sorry its taken a little while but finally got the chance to write something on here so i'll take you up to where i've been so far.
I arrived into Antigua on late sunday 21st, so all i really wanted to do was sleep! When i finally got a chance to look round the next day, i found that it is a really amazing colonial style town which has cobbled streets, and lies in a valley which is surrounded by 3 volcanoes, with another one an hour down the road. Its been a UNESCO world heritate site for quite a while, so they can't change anoything about the place, only restore it.
It has loads of old churches which I had a look at, and then I took a tour on Tuesday which gave a whole different side of things.
On friday I thought it would be a good time to go and climb Volcan Pacaya (i'll put the photos on soon). Its the only active volcano around Antigua, and it last errupted about 3 months ago! We climbed for about 2 hours up, through some pretty sttep tracks and in some parts it was like walking 1 step forwards, and 2 back but we made it in the end. At the top (well 300m away from the summet for obvious reasons), there is a river of lava which was so cool - it was soooo hot too! We got told to keep moving around as if you stand in one place long enough your shoes will melt - yeah pretty hot!! Anyway, i made it down alive, by lunchtime.
Met up with the rest of the Tucan tour group on friday night, all set for the big departure saturday. There are 2 Aussies, 1 French guy and the tour leader is Aussie too so i'm well outnumbered, but they're a great group - although i did get dragged along to the AFL final in the local bar so the Aussie's could have their footie fix, but got a long day tomorrow.
