This is Berlin!
The Wall, Reichstag, bikes, babes, clubs, craving for kebab, coffee surrounding, pretty rosy cheeked people, "Danker Schon!" the ultimate curry wurst, checkpoint Charlie, train fun ( just one minor drama), Humboldt uni, books in german, old postcards, "bitte", hackescher markt, alexander platz, oranienburger tor, Sophie club, flat ground, food markets, jewish museum, sausage, potatoes, felafel, Berlin Dom, Museum Island, Brandenburg Gate, Siegessaule, Rathaus, Uter den Linden…
What a place. It was surreal, standing in front of the Reachstag with our rented bikes on that first day in Berlin, and Liv and I just kept thinking (out loud), oh my god how is it that we were studying this a year ago? How can this be a real place?
The girls and I spent 3 lovely nights in a hostel called city stay in central berlin, hackescher markt, which was actually the nicest hostel we stayed in by far, with a nice bar and breakfast are a and courtyard,and we met some nice peeps there and on the pub crawl. Then I spent another 2 nights in Berlin after the girls left for prague, staying with a lovely servas host family in Oranienburger Tor, which had so many cool clubs and theatres and cafes and art galleries nearby it was outta control. The Franz's were a really cool vegetarian family living in an awesome apartment up on the 4th floor, again I got my own room and marvelled at the simple yet so elegant décor and the high ceilings and quirky furniture which complemented the polished wooden floors. There was Detlef, a dreadlocked dad who looked not a day over 30 with perfect johny depp skin and his daughters Elsa, 15, and Luzie, 7, and son Levi, 13, who were all very sweet. A very cool, nice family.
Berlin is an amazing city, so alive and yet so comforting at times and so fun. So much to do I could have easily spent months there. I could see myself living there, to me it seems like one of those city's you don't get sick of but rather keep finding new and exciting things within, and ultimately get really attached too. Will defffffs be back there.
