I think we'd been looking forward to this day for quite a while. It was time for a rest. Plan nothing. Do nothing. (Apart from an epic bike ride with over 1000m of climbing for Courtney and Ross).
The day started with Courtney and I heading out the door on our bikes around 7.40am. We followed the coast road once again, this time going all the way to Sant Feilu Guixols and a little bit beyond, and returning on the same route. As per Wednesday, the weather was perfect if a little hot, with not a breath of wind and very few cars.
We found ourselves back in Tossa de Mar around 10am, with vertical ascent covered of approximately 870m, meaning we were a bit short on our goal of 1000m. The only answer was to go in search of hills. Steep hills. We found just the hill. A quiet residential street in Tossa de Mar that lurched off the main road and reared up almost immediately. It must have been an average of 20% at least. It was a doozy. It gave us 70m of climbing in no more than a kilometre. It was super steep and hurt, but it did the trick. We did it twice to make sure we really did get over the 1000m.
After returning home and munching on our still warm chocolate croissants that Wendy had thoughtfully been out and bought while Mitchell continued to sleep in, we wandered down the street to see what we could see. And all that we could see, see, see was……. lots of crappy shops.
Desperately needing somewhere to sit down, we found a café on the beach which served ridiculously expensive coffees and juices. We slurped these down and headed back to the apartment. This is where the time for a rest begins. It's fair to say since we departed Melbourne, we've been on full gas ever since. Rarely have we had more than a few spare minutes and really just relaxed.
Within five minutes of arriving back to the apartment, we all lay down and drifted into a deep, deep sleep. Not sure about the others, but I slept for three hours. On waking, I felt as though there was no way I could possibly get out of bed which is not something I experience very often.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent slouching around the apartment, affixed to our phones and generally just chilling.
With a booking for dinner around 7pm, that was our only firm plan. Being our last night in Tossa, we'd noticed a place called Placeta a few days ago that seemed to be turning people away, so we figured it must be pretty good, given quite a few of the restaurants seemed to be doing the opposite.
We ordered a seafood platter and crossed our fingers. The end result wasn't the greatest we've ever experienced, far from it in fact, but it did the job, and after a quick dessert to top ourselves up completely, we stumbled back to the apartment and went back to sleep.
A day off, Snowball style.
