Tuesday 25th March
It was our last day and we still had morning safari to go on. We were still praying to see any leopard or cheetah. We had to be ready by 6am and this time we had a different guide. And it was only 2 of us on the drive again which we were pleased about.
We were back into the National Park and went straight to the restaurant for breakfast. On our way there, our first animals we spotted was rhinos which was quite difficult to tell as it was first mistaken as elephants! we stopped by the lake for hippos. It wasn't close as we did last night. Then we saw a waterbuck at very close distance. It didn't seem to be frightened of us at all. We then went to another lake which had plenty of waterbucks but hopefully they were aware about crocodiles nearby!
Then we saw zebras, elephants & rhinos, none at the close distance. Then finally after a while, we saw zebras crossing the road, that was the first time to get good close up photos of them, especially with a young zebra in the group. Adding to our pleasure, adding to our checklist that we haven't seen before, it was a wildbeest in the distance. We saw another crocodile in the distance, looking as it was having a nap!
We finally reached to the restaurant for breakfast and decided to have eggs/bacon rolls. It was a hour break before we could continue the drive. We spotted a couple of reptiles crawling around in the restaurant.
We hopped back, ready to do more spotting and still had no luck with leopards! We saw few wildbeests at close distance, adding to our checklist. Adding to it, we saw the group of elephants crossing the road with a young leading a group. Again, we spotted zebras and finally giraffes! We haven't seen giraffes for a couple of days! It was the closest we have seen, apart from the time at the lion park where we were feeding them!
We were supposed to be back at the campsite by 11.30am to 12noon for lunch before starting our way back to Johannesburg. Unfortunately we were running late already and we knew that we wouldn't have time for lunch. On our way back, our driver spotted a dead snake on the road which its head was run over. Suddenly after few moments, we saw a huge group of buffalos! We went past the same lake where we saw hippos this morning. We stopped by there again as the hippos were finally out of the water! In the distance, we could see the young one too. Unfortunately by the time we arrived, we didn't see any leopards or cheetah to our disappointment.
We were told that we had to grab our bags from the tent and hopped back onto the landrover to make our way back to the reception for our transfer to Johannesburg. We were certainly sad to leave as we had an amazing time and would certainly love to come back to do longer safari this time.
Our minibus was ready to take us straight to Johannesburg which was again 5 hours journey. Unfortunately by the time we reached the area where our hostel was, our driver got lost and didn't know where he was going. After asking for help for directions, we finally arrived after 30mins driving around! We were too tired to do bit of cooking and also we didn't have any food on us so we decided to order for pizza which was very filling!
We then made the most of the free internet to book for our coach for the next day to Cape Town. We were going to book with Greyhound but they wouldn't accept our credit cards as they only accept south african cards! So we gave up on them and decided to go with Interscape. Then we searched for the hostel to stay in. Once that was sorted, Lisa was so tired so she had an early night while Daniel was sorting the photos out from the Safari. He then made a desktop picture with few photos from safari as a memory for us. He didn't get to bed till at least 11.30pm.
