Saturday 22nd March
We got up at reasonable time as the pick up was due to arrive at 9.30am. While we were waiting, we quickly checked the internet and the car arrived. We thought it was just a normal visit for the hostel till we realised that it was our pick up! We were unsure cos we were expecting a minibus. The car already had a family in so we exchanged greetings. After at least 45mins drive away, we thought that they would just drop us off and then pick us up again. We were wrong again. In fact, the family was also our tour guide too to do the self drive safari. We thought we would jump onto the safari bus.
Once our driver sorted out the entrance fee, we were on our way around the park and spotted zebras, impalas, buffalos and it was quite small park. We then stopped at the caged enclosures which had cheetahs and hyenas in it. We were then entered into the lions enclosure and spotted plenty of lions/lionesses. We were amazed once we entered and got excited. Unfortunately our excitement shook the car and made a couple of lions chasing our car. The driver wasn't quite pleased, however he should have warn us beforehand as we had no idea that it would occur! After going around in 4 different enclosures, we returned back to the entrance and parked. We went straight to the cubs world.
We had to wait for a long while as there was a long queue, waiting to interact with the cubs. Once it was our turn, we were only allowed 2 mins to play with the cubs. Unfortunately cos we wanted the photos taken, it took most of the time being photographed, leaving us not much time to interact with the cubs. We were quite dissapointed in the end. As we had to wait for the photos to be printed, we went to visit the giraffes to do bit of feeding. We climbed up to the platform and enjoyed feeding the giraffes! We fed them till we ran out of food and wandered around the other cages that had young lions and cubs. Once we collected the photos, we made our way back to look for the people who drove us and found them having their lunch. So we decided to leave them and continued to wander around and spotted few more animals such as Jackal and next to the enclosure was a couple of very young lion cubs playing with each other. While we were watching them, the sky decided to open and poured down with plenty of rain! We ran inside and watched the volunteers taking the lion cubs inside. It made Lisa wishing that she could be one of the volunteer and work there instead of having 30 secs of interact with the cubs. We were still waiting around for another 30 mins before the family were ready to leave!
We were finally back to the hostel by 2pm and had our lunch before booking the safari package. We booked the safari starting from tomorrow for the next 3 days.
