Tuesday 29th January
We both woke up pretty early, eariler than expected! It could be excitement of going to the Australia Zoo! Our coach was for 8.30am so we had a couple of hours spare to do whatever we wanted till then.
8.30am came, and we were on the coach for another hour before we reached to the famous zoo. At the entrance, there were a couple of reptiles runnng around freely. We thought that they must have escaped from their enclosures but the truth was that they were meant to be running around like that!
After receiving the programme, we were unsure where to go first but before we got to the main area of the zoo, we had to walk past the selection of crocodiles. They were the first few displays we have seen.
Nearby, there was the exhibition, showing all different kinds of snakes. Unfortunately for Lisa, she wanted to see furry animals rather admiring the slitering reptiles! On our way out, we spotted a wombat sleeping in its enclosure and it was so cute and cuddly!
Reading through the programme, there was a presentation on feeding the giant tortoises. We decided to attend it while we were waiting for the hand-feeding the elephants nearby.
We were quite lucky to get the good spot as we had good and close look at the tortoises. We were amazed that they loved their shells scratched. We thought that cos it was so hard, they wouldn't be able to feel a thing!
Elephants feeding time, we made our way and queued up to join to feed them. Unfortunately Daniel couldn't do it as if we wanted photos of feeding, he had to be in the different area to take photos, rather being in the queue to feed. So when it came to Lisa's turn, she gave a carrot to one of the elephants. It was taken and eaten within 5 secs! She was quite dissapointed cos she wasn't expecting to be that quick. At least it would be good if we could take time to stroke the elephant's trunk or something like that!
On the programme, it mentioned that you can get up closer to few animals so we decided to book ourselves to meet the Wombats and Dingoes in the afternoon. We were quite excited about that! Luckily for us, the famous Crocoseum was next to it and we were just in time to see the show!
The show started at 11am and we had to wait for a long while before watching the crocodiles' action. They showed all sort of wildlifes such as Elephants, Snakes and Birds. Finally it was time for the crocodile to come through. Its name was Monty. It wasn't good as we thought it should be but then it was cos it wasn't Steve Irwin doing it.
After the show, we refuelled ourselves with early lunch so we would have plenty of time in the afternoon. Once we filled our stomaches, we looked around in the Crocodile Hunter's Museum which was all about Steve and his life. We also saw the memorial tributes which were plenty to read!
Nearby, there was an exhibition called Roo Heaven which it was where you could feed the wallabys or Kangaroos. First, we had to get the food before we could enter which was based in the Kids Zoo. So we made our way there and bought farm food for the kids zoo as well as Roo Food for the kangaroos obviously! We were really surprised with the prices as it was so cheap! Seeing that we were already in the Kids Zoo, we fed the goats and sheeps. They were really pushy and so hungry, fighting over the food! There were also calves and piglets but we didn't feed them. Calves were out of reach and there were too many people surrounding the piglets.
We setted off to the Roo Heaven. We were quite nervous cos we had the image of them pushing us to get the food! After walking for a min, we couldn't see any! Within the park, there was an display, full of spikey Echidnas.
Eventually, we spotted a wallaby in the distance so we walked over to it and found plenty! we approached to one carefully, not knowing what to expect. Lisa was the first one who fed it and to our surprise, it was so gentle! Eventually Daniel approached to another one and it enjoyed eating out of his hand. We were amazed to be so close to the lovely creatures!
We were unsure if we were allowed to pat or stroke while feeding till we spotted plenty were doing it. That got us doing it and to our amazement, their fur weren't soft as we thought it would be! However we did meet one of the biggest one, it had the most loveliest fur to stroke which we both enjoyed! There were so many and we have sat with a couple while they were relaxing. They do find flies annoying just like us humans as they were hitting the flies away or at least scratch them away! hahah
Eventually we both ran out of food after feeding each different one, obviously they had different characters! We did come across to one whom we did feel the teeth scraping from our palms roughly!!
Daniel dragged Lisa out of the Roo Heaven, telling her that we got to move on to see other stuff. Lisa would be happy, sitting with the kangaroos/Wallabys all afternoon!
We caught a shuttle to get to the another side of the zoo where we saw the tigers and elephants. Once we looked at our watches, we didn't realise the time and that we had to make our way back to the information centre to meet the Wombats at 2.30pm. On our way back, we popped into Koala Walk where you could stroke the koala and have a photo with, which we did. We also walked through the park which had red Kangaroos and as usual, we both couldn't resist to meet them! Finally after dragging ourselves away from meeting the animals, we passed the keeper holding the possum which we naturally stopped and met/stroked it! Finally We reached to the information centre, we had to change our shoes as we were wearing our flipflops. We hired the toes covered shoes from them before meeting the photographer to take us to the Wombats Exhibition.
To our surprise, we were the only ones who were going to meet the wombats! Once we reached to the location, the keepers were feeding the wombats so we had to wait for at least 15mins before they settle down for us to meet.
The moment arrived, we entered into their homes and had photos with them. Everyone outside were watching us and we felt as we were the luckiest ones to meet the wombats. They were lovely. We spent time with them for at least 20mins or so while their keepers were telling us about them.
We returned back to the information centre and waited to meet Dingoes. At that point, the heaven opened and came down with heavy rain!! It was a good timing that we met the wombats before the rain came! Unfortunately for us, we weren't the only ones who were going to meet the dingoes. There was 2 families waiting too and we were hoping to have dingoes to ourselves!
We met the dingoes inside the information centre, instead of going to their homes due to the weather conditions. We waited for a long while before they turned up. We were worried cos we were supposed to meet them at 3.15pm and our coach to get back to Noosa was at 4pm.
Once the dingoes arrived, we were told to sit on the floor and let the dingoes come to us naturally. They were quite shy and didn't seems to be interested in us. We found it hard to believe that they can be wild as they were just like a friendly dog!
Eventually after letting the dingoes settling down and getting used to us, we were then allowed to stroke them and have photos taken with them.
We were then running out of time as our coach was leaving at 4pm and we knew that we wouldn't have enough time to collect the photos so we tried to see if there were other options to get back to Noosa Heads. Unfortunately the coach was our only option so we had to run and catch it, missing the photos.
We got on the coach with a min to spare! We arrived back to our hostel and had a brief nap before cooking ourselves dinner. As usual we repacked everything back together and had an early night.
