From The Grampians we travelled south and hit the coast that day, super keen for an ocean shower, river water and soap just wasn't doing it for me anymore. The Great Ocean Road provided.. and some. Every person we talked to back home and on the road agreed we were in for a treat on the G.O.R. and it didn't fail to deliver. The first spot we stayed at, Childers Cove, just east of Warrnambool was very nice, nestled between two weathered red limestone-ish cliffs with a decent swell rolling through, (regrettably I passed up the surf assuming we would be in for many opportunites this week...) We also were victim to our second Fox robbery that night, they stole our teatowel. After Childers Cove we scooted down the western side of the Otway National Park coastline, we stayed the night at a camping reserve in Princetown, a place where the river just stops shy of the sea alot like Moore River, WA, but the river's alot smaller and the Northern cliff quadriples in size! The swell was hitting the coast with plenty of guts, windy and sizey, passed it up again. We met a guy named Laylen, Laelin, Lailyn.. (something like that), he filled us in on plenty of scenic walks and surf spots to check out along the GOR which came in handy as we were as lost as the thousand and one international tourists were at the 12 Apostles. One spot we were told about was a place called Johanna, we coud reach it via either 'Blue Johanna rd' or 'Red Johanna rd' we took the longer meandering rd in Blue Johanna and both decided it is the most beautiful place we've seen yet. Better than the Gramps', better than the Cliffs, Blue Johanna can't be beat in our eyes. Johanna was so nice we stayed 2 nights, (being a free-site helped our decision and our wallets as well), meanwhile the surf was dropping, my smile was fading. From there we took a walk trail through a rainforest called Mait's Rest near the Great Otway National Park Cape [the furtherest south point in Vic (west of Melbourne)]. That night we called the campsite Parker Hill home, camped next to the most 'That aint livin'' campers we've seen yet, up top of a million and one stairs overlooking another river-bay-cliff combo, beautiful. The next two nights were spent between Apollo Bay and Lorne (on the proper stretch of the Great Ocean Road) up Jamieson's Track, (the cover photo). Great veiw and even greater 4WD tracks, made a hectic hill descent in the Troopy and wasn't too sure we'd get back up, I think I was more frightened than Shenae but got up first crack, she lives on...(the Troopy)... (Shenae too)Heading through the cities now, Geelong first then the big smoke. See how we go adjusting to the city roads again, + trams, + pedestrian right of way... wish us luck.Alex.
