We finally left Maricopa, Arizona amazingly without a horse, but thanks to Kim with two lassos so the kids can keep practicing roping each other!? We are at long last headed east. We stopped for the afternoon at White Sands, New Mexico. What a fun place! It is the world's largest gypsum sand desert. An entire horizon of brilliant white sand, just like snow, but warmer! We made sand angels and rented a slip 'n slide saucer and went sliding down the dunes like we would any normal snow bank. It was akin to an afternoon at the Frozen John hill, without the frozen part. If snow felt as good on bare feet as the powdered gypsum of White Sands, Fort St. John would be flooded with bus loads of Asians and crazy people like us.
It is said of White Sands:
"I only went out for a walk
and finally concluded to stay out till sundown,
for going out, I found, was really going in."
John Muir
Now we are headed to Carlsbad, NM, and the Carlsbad Caverns which, since I survived my fear of death on our Zion hike, the caverns ought to prove beneficial for my claustrophobia...
Other Famous Quotes:
"You're not a woman, you're my sister!"
"Just because you're in the States doesn't mean you have to sue someone."
"This budget stuff sucks!"
