Monday June 16th
A quick breakfast (great coffee – the Brazilians love their coffee!) and it was on to tour Horse riding tour. This was great – our horses took us around the jungle to the lake – on the way we saw some more birds, capuchin monkeys, hummingbirds and Jabiru storks. Spencer did very well on his horse and we walked back to the Pousada through the wetlands, with sleeping caimans either side of the horse trail. We both thought of Eleanor who would have loved the horses.
That afternoon was to be an amazing highlight of the trip – piranha fishing! We headed out on the boat and then our guides gave us our bamboo fishing poles, put on the bait (raw meat) and we fished! It was a bit windy so we moved to a more secluded spot and then Spencer caught the first piranha (a golden bellied piranha). He was over the moon. After a while we all caught some piranha (some keepers others too small) It was getting dark so we pulled poles after an hour with about 10 piranha for soup that night and we motored back to the Pousada under an another amazing Pantanal sunset!
We had a very early start then next day to Porto Alegre so it was a quick dinner and then straight to bed – another amazing day on this trip!
