Hi all!
Sorry it has been a while. I've been on fraser island for the past 3 days. Itwas a really good experience, quite challenging but good (lots of 'woop'ing involved). Im absolutely covered in bruises from getting thrown about in the 4x4and I got sand everywhere imaginable. i had a group of 9 people in my group - only 4 of which could drive. We set off on sunday morning in our home for the next 3 days - 'clarissa' the 4x4.
The first day we spent hours mucking about at lake wabi. It was such a nice lake to swim in, exept for the catfish nipping at your legs!! We then set up camp on the beach and had a bbq. You can't swim in the sea becauseof the tiger sharks so we stayed well clear of the water. On the first night we did some drinking games and chatted until 9pm when we all went to bed.
On Monday We were up at 6am to hit road about 7am. We had to stick to an itenary due to the tide changes. It was absolutely lashing it down so everyone was a bit grumpy because most of the tents had got water in them. We made our way to a look out point to look for sharks but saw nothing. We found a fairly sheltered spot to camp on at 1pm. It took us a while to get clarissa up between the sandunes but we eventually made it! The weather was wild and everyone was feeling tired, wet and sandy! Luckily, we met these aussies who were on a reunion andhad lots of big tents and more shelter. If we didnt we wouldn't have got our dinner cooked as the hob wasnt working in the wind. The guys had a drinking game where you had to back throw your can ofbeer into the circle and if you missed then you had to neck your beer. Quite a challenge in the wind. They then brought out this vodka, sugar and lime mixure and that went round everyone. I went to bed fairly early as i could feel the vodka kicking in and i had to drive the next day. Most of the boys had to be carried back to there tents!!
needless to say everyone was happy to be woken up at 6am!!! The weather was good again so we headed off to lake mckenzie. Lake mckenzie was beautiful and great to swim in. While we were there a dingo jumped on he roof of our car -quite creepy! To get there involved alot of rough terrain to drive on and everything was getting flung around the back of the car. I actually enjoyed the driving and was the main driver for the whole trip. reversing off the ferry wasn't a laugh in a half mind you!!!
Everyone was relieved to get back and de-sand. Even though there was alot of youngsters in my group, they were all pretty sound so we had lots of fun.
Im in bundaberg now andthings dont look great. No-one speaks english! there are alot korean ,french etc so Im going to be talking to the lemons for the next few weeks i think!!
