Hi all, Got the boat at 8 this morning back to the mainland. You will be glad to hear it wasn't a speedboat. The drivers made me sit on the top deck with them - because i'm on my own they all think i need a friend or need extra care. They smoked all the way over and by the time i got to the mainland i was gasping for air. All malay men smoke it seems. Got picked up by a nice air-conditioned minivan for the journey up to the highlands. I was sitting at the front (again) and the driver bought ranbutans for everyone to eat - trouble was they were covered in ants and they went everywhere, yucky! We stopped off for lunch in this crazy muslim restaurant. the food they were all munching on looked amazing but we were taken to a special 'western' area to eat egg and carrot (!?) sandwiches. Got to my guesthouse about 5pm and had a hot shower, put trainers on for the first time in over a month and looked in the mirror (something I had not had the luxury of doing for about 4days). My room is situated in this old english-looking building on the top of a hill and my room is kind of like a bedroom in an old people's hospital. Its so clean though. Going on a tour around some of the tea plantations and fruit and veg farms tomorrow. Hope you are all well. Christopher Garman - I can't believe it has taken you so long!
