So, I am currently in the process of thinking about packing whilst in the knowledge that I have to be done by tomorrow because I am leaving to catch a lift into Budapest at 3am.
the concert in Sibiu was rather lovely, although for some reason people seemed very loath to applaud the musicians, so most of the time there I was, the peculiar foreigner on her own leading the applause. The recorder player actually made the concert for me - he is a legend and he was French, so we had a little French interlude between the romanian explanations. I talked to him afterwards and he was really nice, plus he gets the award for best moustache.
Just a little tip for all you thinking of going to Brasov: DO NOT walk from the station into town, it's just not worth it. Plus you see the nasty ugly modern side of the town which kinda bursts the ooh it's a quaint little town that time forgot side of the visit.
I would like to say that I have visited the most beautiful castle in Romania and 'dracula's' castle, but I didn't. In true Becka timing I arrived on Sunday eve. Most things are closed Monday and the day after was 1st May a national holiday. So I saw none of the castles which was a disappointment.
But not for long! At the hostel I was sharing a dorm with a group of 3 French and 1 czech on a quikc break from 'studying' in Budapest. So I piled in the back with them and hit the road. We took the cable car up to the giant white hollywood style BRASOV sign and then drove back to Sighisoara. Some dodgy sausages later, thus it was I was back where I started, eating pie and drinking lemonade.
We spent the last night in Cluj at a really good Romanian restaurant and then I collapsed into bed whilst the guys went to Obsession, supposedly the biggest nightclub in Eastern Europe. Hmmmmm.
Anyways Wednesday was spent at Matthew's garden helping with the visit of the British school and then my favourite - yes, twas back to the dance house. It is the best part of Hungary I have experienced and it must be done by anyone who wants to get a feel for proper folk culture. There was a group of hurdy gurdies and a group of violins with a dulcimer type thing. Both were amazing and the dancers were spectacular aswell. After the initial training bit I had no partner so was perfectly content to sit and watch and marvel. Then one guy took pity on me and taught me a dance which was great fun, spinning around to the music amongst dozens of other dancers....
Ah me.
Yesterday I finally walked along the famous chain bridge of Budapest with its lions and found a music shop where I got lost amongst the sheet music and Cds for a while.
and today?well, here I am mourning how quickly my time has flown, but what can you do?Â
