Mi excursión global.
We jumped on a train down to Valencia to pick up our little car which we've rented for 4 weeks. It turned out to be a brand new Citroen with CD, A/C etc. The drive down the coast was horrid to begin with as we passed the enourmous developments and tasteless towns that run along the south coast. We're camping most of the time which is not as cheap as you'd expect. The Alhambra at Granada was impressive despite the 42 degree heat (similar to Melbourne right now hey?). After Granada we headed to Tarifa which I used to dream about going to when I was a young windsurfer. After seeing how ugly the coast was so far I didn't have my hopes up, but when we got over the hill and saw beautiful sandy beaches, old white houses and a howling wind, I was all smiles. The coast here has hundreds of enourmous windmills making the most of one of the windiest places on the planet. Sarah gave me an early birthday present (I'll be in Egypt by my birthday) and hired me a sailboard for the day. It had been 7 years since I'd sold my board so I was a little scared. The wind here is insane and it punished me most of the day. After 4 or 5 hours (and asking for a smaller sail 4 times and a smaller board twice) I was spent (the black eye and cuts and bruises aside) and gave up to let the experts show me how it was done. It was just too scarey. From Tarifa we went to Cadiz to catch up with some friends and enjoy some tapas and beaches. We'll head across to Portugal tomorrow to try to get amongst the European cup fiesta and do some more exploring.
