Waffles were on the menu for breakie so I just had to sample one. If another stone is to be added to my weight, then so be it.
Time to travel back to Vegas to see if I can enjoy it more than the last time. So south on the 15, through St George where I stopped off to enjoy some time looking through a retail outlet.
I phoned the tourist info office to find out how much the big fancy hotels would be... wow! Much more expensive than the last time I was there. So I decided to opt for the Travelodge... don't laugh as this is very central, has free wi-fi and was a third of the price of the Paris. Hotel being all sorted, I decided to make my way to the Red Rock Canyon which is just west of Vegas. This has many trails that you can walk and was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday afternoon. There were also a lot of cyclists on the road. There is a 18 mile loop that takes you through the park and gives you an idea of what the desert surrounding Vegas looks like.
Traffic getting into the hotel was a nightmare. No-one in this poxy country is a charitable driver and so when I got into the wrong lane, not one person was prepared to let me through. I had to cut some guy off and he ended up following me for a few blocks! The traffic on the Strip was bumper to bumper & reminded me of the M25... oh how I miss that road... NOT!!
The weather in Vegas had really warmed up, but a jumper was still required at night. During the day though, it was t-shirt time. I decided to take in a movie and selected 'Jumper' cos I liked the trailer. The movie however, proved to be slightly disappointing. When walking along the street after the movie, I spotted this young girl who was wearing what can only described as Borat's swimsuit... no I kid you not. This was tucked into her jeans and was a camoflage colour, but the principle was the same.
I stopped for a vino at a bar in the lobby of the MGM Grand - this was the most expensive so far at a whopping $10. I would not normally mind, but the wineglass was so small, the wine was not great & you are expected to tip after every drink. Needless to say the poor girl that served me did not get a tip. I went on to Planet Hollywood and found a little bar tucked into a corner called Sin City. The girl serving was amusing and had studied Mortuary Science. She said that she made good money in tips serving at the bar. A builder, Bradley, joined me - he had a hardhat & dungerees on & reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies. He was 51 and had only just recently discovered that he had two kids - twins at 28 years old - from a fling many years before. There was another builder at the end of the bar that worked with Bradley that I would have put money on him being gay... but apparently he is not. Met another two lads who joined us... one of which called his kids Brixton & London. They are both boys and he even showed me their photos and gave me their website - rippingstitches.com - nice title. This guys has only been to LHR where he spent 3 hours in transit. How I laughed.
