Following a considerably more rested night than the one previously we woke to glorious sunshine again - it is great here in Queensland that even if it's overcast or in the middle of the night it is always warm (shorts and strappy top warm); and even in the wind it's warm. And even the sea is warm - like a comfortable bath temperature! Beauty! I think based on that Queesnland is getting my vote as my favourite Australian state we've been to so far.
After brekkie Scott went for a dip in the pool to give me a bit of space to check my emails and stuff. Frustratingly I managed to speak to my parents on skype for all of 30 seconds before the signal was lost. By about 10am we set off for our return journey to Noosa Heads and back to the Bullman residence. It took a bit longer than expected on the road - mostly one lane roads with lots of no overtaking zones. Scott drove all the way but don't let him tell you he's hard done by cos I offered to drive and he wouldn't let me! We pulled over halfway to a picnic spot for some lunch and by the time we reached Matt and Camille's house it was almost 2pm. We'd just missed them but luckily they had left a key and it wasn't long before the kids (Jed 6yrs, and Macie 5yrs) came running into the house excited and animated to see us. Scott was whisked off to the pub leaving the girls at home to get ready for an evening out and restaurant meal. To my amusement Macie attached herself to me and followed my every move round the house - even into the shower! I relented and allowed her to paint my nails (wisely picking clear varnish for my hands) and help me pick out an outfit to wear. It wasn't too hard - I only had a choice of 2 outfits with my limited wardrobe travelling!
The Bullman's live in a small town just south of Noosa Heads called Peregian Springs so we'd not seen the main town of Noosa yet. This evening we headed to Noosa main beach and had a wander round and a glass of bubbly in a beachside bar before dinner. Scott and the kids had a whale of a time larking about on the sand. The sand was so fine and smooth that it made a squeaking noise under your feet. Noosa main beach is north facing and so unlike many of the beaches in the area sheltered and calm. Obviously the place had been packed throughout the day as by 6pm there was still a lot of hanger onners in the water and soaking up the sun. Noosa was a beautiful trendy and lively place; and the archetypal dream Aussie destination; with a massive surf club, white sand beach, trendy shops and lots of tanned and toned bodies! (obviously myself excluded!)
Dinner was a seafood spectacle at a restaurant picked by Matt and Camille called Cafe Le Monde. The kids were really good and sat quietly colouring in at the table and amusing us with little anecdotes to the conversation. We adults shared a platter of calamari, scallops, prawn and crayfish for starters and Scott and I both went for the same main - a gorgeous seafood pasta. Dessert was an icecream walking in the moonlight along the beach - to my disappointment i'd accidentally missed the ferrero rocher flavour (delicious!) We sprinted up and down the beach and into the surf and tried to catch little crabs in the sand. I screamed 'Last one in the sea is a Sissy' as I ran past the kids towards the waves. The phrase seems to have caught on as we've heard it repeated over and over again since (sorry Matt and Camille!)
Back home further good conversations (and skype calls with Scott's parents) were to be had over a bottle of red (amazingly bought from a drive-thru liquor store on the way home! - can you believe the irony) before we fell into bed after another great day.
