My darling wife enjoyed yesterday evenings cheese board and ended up eating far too much. This resulted in her having an active imagination which kept us awake until 2.30am at which point I suggested she go and sleep on the couch downstairs. Feeling tired and robbed of precious sleep we packed our bags - I had the feeling of deja vu again. We said our goodbyes to El at the airport. I was sad to go but at the same time excited about the next phase of our trip and meeting up with Matt and Camilla again after 11 years. Matt and Camilla had travelled for 18 months before ending up in England in 1999. They had worked at the local pub called the Crown in Frampton Mansell. My parents had lived in the same village and on occasion Matt and Camilla had the pleasure of sampling my mothers roasts.
We managed to catch a few zzzzzzzzzzz on the plane even though we were sat between two rows of screaming kids. The flight was quick and painless arriving on time in Brisbane. Luckily we were to regain time through the clocks changing which meant we managed to pick the camper up in time before the workshop shut at 4pm. The weather was warm and humid in Queensland. I preferred this heat as we drove through a tropical rainstorm heading out of Brisbane to Noosa Heads.
To Matt's and Ju's surprise we found their house with ease. Ju had given me an ear bashing in the car for not taking down exact and precise detailed instructions on how to get to the Bullman's residence. She should have more faith in her husband. Matt and Camilla immediately made us feel welcome. Their house was a gorgeous family home - much like what I imagined an Aussie family home would look like. It was weird bridging the gap of time as I sat enjoying a steak cooked on the BBQ. It was like I was picking up where we had left off in 2000 as I watched the children, Jed and Macie playing and interacting with Matt and Camilla. Travelling down memory lane Camilla showed me photos of their time spent in the UK. Some of the photos featured the Crown pub where mum and dad used to drink. It was strange thinking pictures of my mum and dad were treasured in a photo album kept in a cupboard on the other side of the World. There was one photo in particular of my dad holding a pint. It made me feel a little nostalgic wishing I could turn back the hands of time and get pissed with him again in the Crown. Unfortunately time doesn't allow that. The photo was a stark reminder that we have to enjoy every moment of our lives; time passes too bloody quickly!
