As promised a blog every sunday!!
And once again thank you all for your comments there very much appreciated!!
Monday:
Started my dorm cleaning as usual at 11am around 12ish i get a phone call from a guy called Ricardo, Ricardo is the part owner of the shop with the garden that i was pulling weeds out of, and he asked me if i had ever painted before, obviously i told him i had done loads of painting before when actually all the experience iv'e had is painting 1 wall next to the office in Robert Dyas and painting over a hole i made in their staff room with a pool cue. he wanted me to come around at 2 and obviously i accepted because money is money and i found myself painting a stairwell. Not the most glamourous of jobs but it was easy money, and its really been perfect since, they basically tell me what needs painting and they let me get on and do it, they dont say i want this done by this time just these rooms and walls need painting the they leave me there alone while they go and do other jobs..easy enough. I met one of their friends who wasa working there doing plastering and i believe hes a U2 fan because he plays them constantly. just the same album over and over and over. i was only there for four hours anyway so i didn't mind too much.
Tuesday:
Again got up to do my 11 - 1 shift and got a text off of Ricardo saying do i want to do some more painting. got there again around 2 to do the second coat on the stairwell. BUT with some dance music playing...happy days..but after about 30mins of playing all went silent..then on came U2 again :( another 4 hours dragged by with U2 playing in the background and was relieved when i had finished. i finished before Ricardo got back to the shop as did i monday but i knew it would just mean a big pay day one day.
Tonight some of the girls herd that me and Simon (Simon is the guy at reception that does yoga (its getting sort of a hostel joke that two simons are getting on so well and there starting to arrange our wedding lol)) anyway they wanted to come along..fair enough. before we went we got talking about yoga and i showed them my moves and found out i could touch my toes from standing at long last :D and its sunday now and i can still do it :D (and it only took two yoga sessions, that sort of shows you how brutal it was) anyway we left a tad late and because it was cold 1 of the girls decided that we would get the tram there i was abit conscientious because i had always walked there and never got the tram. we got off at the stop that the guy at reception told us too, i looked around and thought. nope this doesnt look right. we eventually found out that we were just on the street next to the one i usually walk down but by the time we found that street it was 8pm and it started at 8pm, we carried on walking towards it and evertually got there at 8.15 to find the door locked..we had missed it. but i wasnt that bothered we had quite a good laugh about it. I noticed a couple of times when i walked to yoga i walked past an american diner and since i hadent eaten we decided to go in, we all agreed it was quite a nice place! we had the platter between 4 of us with some curly frys and there special offer was their long island ice tea which was $17 down to $6 each...sorted. we also got a choice of what dipping sauce we wanted...so we obviously went for the hottest, this was not the best choice we had made, we challenged each other that on the count of 3 we would dip our spicy sausages which was coated in bbq sauce into the super hot sauce forgetting that the only thing to try to cool our mouths down was a drink made from vodka, tequila, gin and rum. we had our cameras ready to take pictures but we were in so much pain we forgot totally about that and was focussing on trying to cool our mouths down. By the time we came out we were completely trollyed and had spent more than we would of if we had gone to yoga. but it was still and awsome night.
Wednesday:
got up and went straight to the bank to get my new bank card and check that my money had gone into it alright.
did my 11-1. went to paint and remembered to take my ipod with me this time. win :D plus they had employed some proffessionals to do some work in the room next to mine and i started talking to one of the blokes (a complete frank lookalike (for the robert dyas crew)) and he said he may need a labourer soon so i gave him my number (but no call yet). i cant remember what hours i did that day but got paid $130 for the 3 days. woop woop!! that night i stayed in and wated some scrubs on my laptop plus i had a day off of painting on thursday so i decided to go shopping in the city with a girl from my room.
Thursday:
11-1 .standard.
got the tram into bourke street (which ive pinned my location too on the map) which is the main city. to go and look for some football boots because i was going to train with Simon and his local team (elwood city), i was a bit put off to find that this team had 3 teams (firsts, reserves and a C team) but i had herd that there manager was a former portugese under21's player. i payed $50 for a pair of really nice boots which was a very good price as they started at that price and went up to $500. i got to footy practise and there was alot of people here but it was my first proper football training session for about a year and i was going to enjoy it. but about halfway through i realised i obviously hadnt broken into my new boots yet and remebered the painful feeling of doing so, but i still gave it my all and realised that the standard here wasnt the same as back home, they were good but not what i had expected.
When i got back one of my friends said they had a $50 bar tab at a hostel called base and wundered if i wanted to go with them...yes. we got to base and the place was dead it was a hostel but had a proper bar and disco on the bottom floor but we still had our free drinks and got on our way to our main destination called 29th apartment. it was ok it had the $5 offer like before so thats wat i had but the main good points in the night were the photos we took, the furniture was a king size bed and a bath tub which we all got in plus there was a ladies sex toy in the fish tank.. this was also very amusing. wort bit of the night was one of the girls ordered a round of 2 JD's and cokes 1 vodka and coke and 2 tequilas and it came to $45 which is about £37 pound. where as in england it would cost about £16 - £20.
Friday:
i didnt do my 11-1 today :D
i gave it to someone else because i had to paint from 10 - 5. as soon as i got in i started watchin movies and bummed around my hostel chattin to people seein what they were doing. went into another people room and played cards with them. not a very active friday.
Saturday:
had the morning off as i dont clean dorms on the weekend so went into the city with a friend from my room to go and see a shop called the reject shop, basically a wilkinsons. a cheap shop so i couldnt pass up this oppertunity to be shown where it was, bought some deodorant, extension lead...not very interesting things..then had work painting again at 2 until 7, got paid for both days today was only sopposed to get $156 but they gave me $170 :D got back to the hostel to find that everyone was going out and my plans of doing nothing had changed again. we went round some friends flat who lived at hostel but moved into their own rented flat, played some drinking games, i also gave up on the idea of not drinking and after my 2 glass of diluted wine i was drunk, (everyone drinks wine over here because you can buy cheap wine for about $12 for 4 litres so everyone buys it here) but i also got to see my 1st australian wild animal, a possum :D it was quite dark and looked very much like a cat but it was definatly a possum. we were planning to go to base and then to a club but the new drinking game somebody showed us meant that most of us were ready for bed before we had left thier flat, we got to base with another $50 bar tab and after about an hour people started to wonder so we called it a night there but not before we went to mcdonalds.
Sunday:
I got up at around 12 and went straight into town to buy a dongle so i can use the internet in the hostel now as ive spent about $40 in internet cafes already plus this was $50 for 3gb for a month and i can top it up when i want.
went to work at 3 again (painting) and finished at 8 and got $70 :D
got back to the hostel and talked to my dad and june on skype over my laptop now im speaking to you lot again.
Hopefully ive still got a few more days painting work if not ill find some more labouring to do but im still applying for proper jobs atm just not getting any replies, will have to start handing my CV out when im told im nearly done painting but for now im alright. Might be moving into a four bed dorm with the 3 girls im close friends with because were tired of people coming into our rooms and waking us up because most of our schedules are pretty much the same, plus were get a tv and a fridge :D in this hostel people normally stay here for a long time so they start to make there room theirs, one of our friends has a full sized fridge, tv and a dvd player, one room has a ps3 init and i herd 1 of the rooms that im not allowed to clean because he actuslly lives here now ( theyve made it his and no guests get out there) has a 50inch lcd tv in it lol!
neways its 11.40pm here and im off to bed ill speak to you all in a week.
love you all xxxxxxxxx
