Hello everyone,
Hope your all well!!
Today we have a blog about my trip to Thailand :) but im going to do each blog in sepearate bits so i can select the location of each part of Thailand i visited.
First of all before i came to Australia i had no interest in going to thailand at all, i had the chance to go with my dad and june but refused for a few reason, and i had a chance to go if i decided to have a stop over on my flight to and away from Oz but i also refused. but as soon as i got here everyone was talking about it, all my main friends over here have all been there and they all loved it and very much recommended it to me. i met a good mate out here called henry. and he said he had planned to go to thailand after his trip to Oz, we decided to go together and i would pay for my flights and meet him some where in bangkok.
First of all then, i payed for a minni bus to take me to the airport...all went well, got on my plane and got handed my portable entertainment system that is basically a small tv screen but not in the headrest in front, these things cost $15 extra because the aeroplane company are basically like easyjet and you have to pay for everything extra. had some good movies on, not as much selection as the plane from london to Oz but was still good, only problem was the battery life on them..they only lasted 8 hours which is not very good on a 9 hour flight but o well managed to get some sleep anyway.
Arrived in Bangkok early in the morning and as soon as i got off the plane i felt the humidity hit me. i was glad i had decided to only pack shorts and t-shirts. i walked through the passport control and was walking near the exit when people were shouting out taxi prices and asked where i was going, i said rambuttri hotel, she then said 1300baht to get there plus the toll gates, i quickly worked it out as $39 or about £25 which was way too expensive, went outside and got a taxi there which was 500baht or $15 which was about right as it was about a 40min journey.
Got to the hotel and put my stuff away in my nice air conditioned, double bedded and power showered room. and went along rambuttri road where i decided to have some chicken fried rice and a coke before i went to bed.
The next day i awoke at about 8am because of the intense sunshine beaming through my window and the sound of monks chanting as there was a buddhist temple just outside my window. i went down to have breakfast at the english cafe which was just next to the enterence of the hotel, it was a very nice place which had the sun news paper, so read it there every morning. i got a tuk tuk to the MBK centre which was a big shopping mall and had a quick look around before going back to the hotel to sunbathe on the roof which also had a swimming pool. after this i just killed time by going down rambuttri and ko shan road and watching MUTV, before my friend henry met me at reception at 1am the next day.
we went straight to bed and the next morning got a tuk tuk ride around bangkok to see all the sights, we saw the big Buddha and a few different temples and also went to the tourist infomation centre, where we booked our whole trip, then we finished off at the MBK centre, we had dinner in a thai restaurant and bought tickets to see cowboys vs aliens in the cinema, we waited for the film to start but before the fim started they played the national anthem of thailand which everyone had to stand for...was quite weird but didnt want to spend the next 25 years in a thailand prison so I stood.
The next day it was the weekend market called chatuchak. we went by bus which nothing like the busses back home, had no windows and was basically made from wood. Chatuchak was massive we had a wonder around and it was nice, a relaxed shopping experience and different from the normal bangkok where you cant go into a stall without being offered something. we walked around for a while and decided to go to another shopping centre just next to chatuchak for lunch, which was very nice, best chicken fried rice ive ever had. on our way back into chatuchak we went through the animal section which was lucky because i had wanted to find it all day, they had everything for sale, puppier, kittens, snakes, iguanas, chickens, ducks, geese, everything. walked around a bit more and then got the skytrain back to the MBK. we got a taxi and went back to our hotel and went on the internet but on the way we saw that there was a van with a big tv in the back of it with chair and tables behind it showing the premier league!! we werent sure if we was going to watch the man utd arsenal match and thought we might just live stream it as we were in the internet cafe, but i persuaded him by saying that id buy him a beer so he accepted, turned out it was the best night of the whole trip as man utd beat arsenal 8 - 2, was a great match and at the start of it there was about 5 people there not including us and at the end there was a massive group of people trying to watch the match.
The next day we went to siame square because henry wanted to get a hard rock cafe t-shirt and waited by our hotel until we had to leave for chiang mai that evening...
OK so thats what we got up to during the first part of our trip to Bangkok, ill publish it from here and will write my Chiang Mai blog soon!!!
