Jodphur
Awful 10 hour bumpy, smelly night bus, we arrived 5am tired and shaken and stirred. Our hostel was a huge relief. The 'Blue City' is very appropriately named after the bright blue coloured buildings of this fort city. We stayed in the old part, made of meandering streets and alleways. From here we had a private (as you can get in India) route up the hill side to the fort gates. A magnificent fort, great views of the city and our fellow tourists included Bill Gates.
Jaisalmer
Stayed inside the 'Sand Castle' like fort walls of the 'Golden City'. Again a fascinating town (mostly contained in the outer fort walls). Relaxed before our impending journey into the desert.
Traveled 70km by jeep towards Pakistan into the Thar Desert via a number of small tribal villages. We saddled our Camels and rode towards the sandy horizon. One of the most bumpy and rocky (nearly as much as our last sleeper coach) but pleasant modes of transport so far! Although when our camels ran the ride became less comfortable. As the sun began to set we dismounted and set up camp for the night. After dinner and a few beers we settled down for a night under the stars. Back on our camels the next morning we rode back in the direction of Jaisalmer.
Now back in Dehli after a 20 hour train journey.
