Simon & Kim's Global Adventure
Grey clouds covered the sky as we took a bus from Boston to Salem. Its the popular tourist site due to the Salem Witch trials of 1692 and we had a day spare so thought we'd check it out. The tourist maps provide a rough walking guide around all the witch related buildings. We began near a witch dungeon museum but weren't willing to pay as we figured there would be plenty of free attractions. There were a few witch statues and images around the town.
Our guide book recommended one witch museum so we went in for a look. The first part was an explanation of how the witch accusations started and how those accused of being witches were killed. As we sat scenes around the room were lit up and the voice over provided a detailed story. The second part was about the perception of witches and paganism. Although we learnt a little, we were both agreed that the museum wasn't worth the money and our guide book had let us down again.
For those unfortunate few, who were either hanged or crushed to death by a stone, there was a memorial. In a small area beside the graveyard were benches with each of the falsely accused 'witches; names, the year they died and how they were killed. On the floor were also some of the victims last words. As the rain began to fall we made our way back to the bus stop and back to Boston.
