Had a surprisingly good sleep at Mr Mullets haha... No bed bugs thank goodness! Poor Barbs got nailed at the Gonzalez joint... Our wifi was, however, not working so I walked to Gonzalez to use theirs and Skyped Byravi (yay!) and home... We were taking it super chilled this morning:) Only got going to breakfast eventually at around 11am... We found a little spot and had a champion breakfast with smoothies and all! We even had some hippy serenading us with what I can only imagine is his own song which quite literally goes "Guatemala Guatemala Guatema-lllaaaa" hahaha... After sufficiently nourishing ourselves, we set off to try figure out what attracts people to this place. The main activities appear to be volcano climbing (we weren't in the mood and it's quite hazy), kayaking on the lake, learning Spanish and visiting the surrounding villages.. We opted for the latter and got onto a boat to San Marcos- the chilled yoga village apparently... When we first arrived we realized there wasn't much to this place... This is apparently a place where you go to cleanse your aura blah blah blah... A bit much!! Anyways, we walked around a bit then headed to what is known as the "trampoline" which is a cliff jump into the Lake... We ended up walking along a pretty path alongside the lake and sat on some rocks and benches and just chilled out for an hour or so... We got the boat back to San Pedro and went straight to one of the more well known hostels called Zoola's (predominantly Israeli place)... They have a colourful chill zone area with scatter cushions etc so we chose to have some dinner there... We ordered home fries which arrived and literally changed our world!! Sssooooo delicious so we ordered another plate haha... Almost made this whole trek worth it ;)
Unfortunately then we hit a bit of a panic realizing how little time there is left and how much more there is to do... The issue being the girls had to be in Panama City by the 30th to leave on a boat trip to Colombia... I didn't necessarily have this time pressure other than the fact that Sarah needs to be in Panama to join up with a friend there around that date too... So I have 2 choices really - get to Panama and join the cruise (nnnooooo ways I'm rushing all the way there without a purpose) or stay and pursue my Spanish lessons in Antigua...
We all did lots of research when we got to our respective rooms (frustrating with little to no wifi connection) but regardless we are leaving San Pedro tomorrow morning at 7:30am to get to Antigua! Stressful times... Will figure something out!
Lesson of the day: Skip San Pedro when coming to Guatemala ;)
Moment of the day: The first bite of the Zoola home fries hahaha
