Today is a very sad day:( Woke up to the awfully sad news that our darling Eugene had passed away... I'm so sad. I know he's at peace and in a better place... But never really wanted him to go... I am so grateful for all the time I got to spend with him this year... I wish I could be there with my cousins and Rose right now but will get there soon.
Unfortunately then I was a bit weepy and sad today, but we still had a good day. We had booked a coffee tour at a plantation called Philadelphia and were picked up in a vehicle very similar to a game drive vehicle... Was great to drive through the bumpy cobbled roads of the city... The plantation itself was really beautiful and we had an incredible interesting tour learning about how coffee gets from bean to cup... We of course ended the tour with a cup of delicious coffee from the farm and were dropped off at the famous arch of Antigua... We soaked up more of the city and then found a really beautiful church... It was such a beautiful moment, such peaceful music was playing and I was able to take a few moments and pray for Eugene, lit a candle for him and just had another good cry.. I needed it though and felt much better for it.
We then got back to the hostel, grabbed a sandwich from across the road and caught our shuttle to the airport... We were well in time for our flight - have never ever seen such an empty airport!! Clearly there is zero demand for flights in this part of the world... So we just chilled, chatted to who we could back home, read and finally boarded our plane... There were literally only 33 passengers on board this big plane so we rocked entire rows of seats to ourselves and slept so well until we landed in Costa Rica :) We had to decide our plan of action and eventually settled for the safer option to stay the night in San Jose and leave first thing in the morning for Puerto Viejo! We stayed at a hostel called Costa Rica backpackers in our own dorm again and really just spent the evening catching up using the wifi and going to sleep... Excited for tomorrow!
Lesson of the day: Don't leave your laptop behind on the plane!!!! (Got it back thank goodness...)
Moment of the day: Being in the church in Antigua, praying for Eugene xx
