Back online! It's been a while since I wrote the last time and the main reason for this is that I have spent the last 12 days in The Andaman Islands, where the Internet doesn't work - believe it or not in the year of 2009 but apparently it is possible. Nice to try actually because it probably won't take many years until you can get online everywhere in the World. In the beginning I missed it but after a few days I really got used to not being updated on the Internet - or on the phone for that matter, cause Vodafone doesn't work in The Andamans either (only in Port Blair on the main island, where I didn't stay).
The Andaman Islands are amazing!! So incredibly beautiful. Paradise I would say. I am so happy about my decision about going there. I truly had a wonderful time.
In Port Blair airport I met Bertie from Australia and Matilde from Denmark, whom I shared a rickshaw with to the Jetty from where we took the ferry to Havelock Island. We ended up spending the entire time together and found a hut to share. Lovely persons whom I really had a good time with. We also spent time with Nick and Stu from England, who we met just after arriving on Havelock, and with Rick, who I met in Ooty.
The six of us enjoyed each others company and the days went by doing as little as possible (however, time went passed so quickly!): We went to Beach No. 7 (all the beaches have numbers instead of names), which is the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen; we cycled arround the island; we had lovely food at family restaurants; had beers and played cards in the nights; lay in hammocks all day reading books, talking, napping, chilling; having food brought to the porch of our hut in our resort Coconut Grove; cooking fresh fish over a bonfire on the beach with the help of a greek chef; and snorkling. Incredibly amazing.
Today I got back to the mainland, Chennai, where I spend one night. Tomorrow I head towards Tiruvannamalai, where I am going to do some volonteer work for at short period of time. I am really looking forward to this. I have no idea what to expect, however, but time will show how it all turns out :)
And now an update on the days between my last blog post and The Andamans:
Sunday the 8th I spent with Wilma in Varkala having a good and relaxing time, while the 9th was more of a hassle. Before noon I went to Varkala train station to get to Trivandrum, from where my Chennai train left. I got a ticket but because of delay I had to wait two hours for the train. Four hours later the train still hadn't come(!) and luckily an English couple, who I met earlier the same day, asked if I wanted to come with them in a taxi payed by them. Really nice of them. So I ended up arriving in Trivandrum less than half an hour before my train to Chennai left..! I made it though. Shortly after I found out that my train to Chennai actually stops at Varkala, so I could just have got on the train in Varkala instead of waisting time and money going to Trivandrum. Typical! Anyway, I arrived in Chennai accompanied by Bejoy (the guy who drove me arround in Trivandrum) where I also met Jude from Varkala again. We spent most of our time in the cinema where we watched the Bollywood film Luck By Chance, in where Tao's (who I met in Varkala) sister has a big role, and the prize-winning film Slum Dog Millionaire - go watch this one! It is really really good.
On the 12th Jude and I got up really early in the morning to go to the airport from where we were to fly in two different directions - I to The Andamans and Jude to Sri Lanka. I was so lucky that we went there early because of Jude's flight because I had mixed up the flight times and thought my flight were to leave at 12.30 when it actually left at 10.00. I got the flight, though. Pyh... :)
That was the latest news. I definitely have a good time.
Hope you all are good.
