Melaka:

Well we left Singapore to Melaka. To get there we needed to board a bus in Singapore which took us to the city just of the boarder in Malaysia which was called Johor Baru.

Getting out of Singapore was fine and getting into Malaysia was also fine but we took a wrong turn at the bus station once wer were in their (it wasnt that easily signposted) and it led us not to our bus which we needed to get upto the bus station up the road, but to another terminal altogether. All very confusing but it meant that we couldn't go back to where we came from due to immigration reasons or something. So we then needed to find another way to Larkin (Johor Baru's bus station). We were told by a nice and helpful man that we could catch any local bus that said 'Larkin' on the side of it...we quickly found one and boarded it. When we asked the driver how long it would take he told us 1 1/2 hrs- this couldnt be right as it was only 5km out of town. He was scamming us! In the end we had to get off the bus and get a taxi to the station and it was all ok in the end but was a bit annoying as it prooved quite expensive!

Finally we were on a bus to Melaka, 4 1/2 hours away. For me the journey was fine, I had a nice knap for some bits, other bit I just took in the scenery which included alot of palm trees. Matt however had an all together different experience; having not gone to the toilet before we boarded the bus due to our mix up at immigration, he was in desperate need for the toilet and the bus driver showed no signs of stopping. In the end, when he was about to burst, he had to take an empty bottle of water and wee in it! All very funny! Luckily the bus wasn't that busy so he went to the back seats...he felt alot better afterwards!!!

Arriving in Melaka we were approached by a 'nice man' advising us he had a hostel and would we like to stay? The price looked ok at 2pounds a night and rooms looked basic but fine...done! We took a walk into town and had a look around- it had a Mango which i was happy about! It also had a night market which was nice, saw some cute puppy dogs though which were locked in cages, very sad :(
Had some nice grub and a few drinks then headed back to our hostel. Once we got their and i got my sleeping bag liner out and lay it on the bed i noticed some marks that looked to be those of bed bugs- YUK! As I inspected further I found a dead one and alot more signs that they were living in our bed! However it was too late and me having a silk liner which means bed bugs cannot get to me we lay down.
I was up all night though just thinking about them and itching even thou i knew I would be ok but in the morning when we got up we decided that we had seen enough of Melaka and boarded an earlier than planned bus to Tioman. We probably didn't give Melaka a good enough chance but we did pick up a tourist map and we had seen many of the sights on the map the previous day so didnt feel too bad!
