Me again :)
Just at the airport and have another 40 minutes before my flight to Alice Springs (or Alice as it's apparently commonly known). I've enjoyed Darwin, especially the Mirambeena Resort! The staff were really friendly, helpful, and nice so that made a difference. In fact, most of the people I spoke to in shops and so on were really friendly and helpful too.
Darwin is a big city - the roads are really wide and there seems to be so much space!! London is crowded I know, but you can really feel the difference when you come somewhere like this. Apparently Darwin is getting full up of people as well, as there isn't any more space left where they can build houses, but you wouldn't be able to tell!! I guess it's because it's the wet season too, so there aren't so many tourists around but it sometimes felt like I was the only person out and about (as opposed to being in a car, but sometimes they were few and far between)!! Especially when I was walking to the bus stop from the museum yesterday. I only saw one other bloke, who babbled something at me but he was obviously a bit crackers as he wasn't wearing any shoes (though I've seen quite a few people not bother with shoes in Darwin). See what too much sun does to you?
I wish I had got my act together and done a few more things in Darwin as well, as there is quite a lovely beach here that I didn't get to appreciate. Mind you, it's so flipping hot out here, I would probably have lobstered out there in about 5 seconds!! I also had a lovely resort to stay in that I felt I should make the most of! :D
Having crossed through two countries as well as the heat, just made me feel very sleepy! As most of you know, I do loooooooooooove to sleep as well :D
It's a shame I didn't get to Kakadu National Park, but Litchfield was absolutely gorgeous so I'm glad I went there. Kakadu is also further away from Darwin, so I would probably have chucked up on the coach, hahahahaha!
In any case, it was nice to not have to rush around and do things, and be able to take my time. I'm looking forward to being in Alice Springs though I've been told not to go out at night.....perhaps I'll just stay at the hostel and get my bearings. I'm only there for 2 nights in any case, before I get on my Uluru tour. Then I'm in another hostel for another 2 nights before I fly off to Melbourne.
Am also hoping that being in a hostel, I'll meet a few more people as being in the hotel resort seemed quite set apart from everyone else.
