Right, since we last wrote on the blog we have more or less sussed how to cross the road. Walk slowly, flap arms about and maintain eye contact with the driver that is hurtling towards you (thats if you've still got your eyes open!!!)
Sunday we took a day trip to the Purfume pagoda. Bus journey took what seemed like forever on very bumpy roads and sweltering minibus. The day consisted of us sailing along the river for an hour in the middle of the day (soooo hot!) on a boat which is best described as a sardine tin! Veiws were stunning and seen lots of locals going about their daily jobs on the river. When we got off the boat we had to trek, yes trek, up a rubble hill which did'nt look too safe. We thought this would be the only walking we would have to do, how wrong could we be!! There was light at the end of a very hot, long and sweaty tunnel when we were told we had the option of a cable car to the temple, $4 spent that was worth every penny! Temple was inside a cave and interesting to see. After more unsafe steps and cable car down, we went back for a traditional Vietnemese lunch much to Amy's horror, not only could she not use the chopsticks provided, you would'nt want to look at the "kitchen" before you ate. It was a dirty shack with dogs running round and a pit dug into the the soil round the back to use as a toilet! That said none of us were ill from it the next day.
In the afternoon we visited another little temple before heading back in the sardine can. The guide was a bit bored and decided to pick his mobile phone ringtone whilst we were sailing on the deadly silent river, we could'nt stop giggling. Also we had a hippy traveller in our boat who decided to collect rubbish from the river with a plastic bag he also told off the guide for picking out his ringtone as he wanted to collect in peace, this just made us giggle even more! This will make you laugh, on the minibus back we saw a COFFIN on the bike on a motorbike anything goes over here!!!
Monday we had a lazy day and pottered about, went and had pancakes for breakfast and then walked round the old quarter exploring the tiny shops and streets. We got very lost as we forgot to bring a map. Monday night we went ot watch the water puppet theatre an ancient art preserved in Vietnam. After giggling our way through that we were in a good mood until we seen the rain........ This rain was like no other any of us have ever seen, even the locals were'nt daring to go out in it! Next thing we were stood wondering how to get home dry when thunder and lightning strikes, the streets were overflowing and flooded with sewerage coming up from the drains. With the roads deserted apart from a few broken down motorbikes we had to chance getting struck by lightning and getting very wet and walk back. Oh my god... We had water gushing over our ankles and you could'nt see the pavement at all. Locals thought it was hilarious and were still trying to sell us raincoats when clearly we were already drenched!!
Went to Ha long bay tues on a boat trip, not much to tell really, saw a few caves and floating houses. Weds we flew down to HCMC on the worst flight we have ever been on. We all came off it looking green. Taxi did actually drop us off outside hotel though this time, relief!
Today have been to Cu Chi tunnels, a tour all about the Vietnemese war. Really interesting and we all enjoyed it. Our tour guide was very informative, what we could understand anyway. Sarah however did'nt brave going underground into the tiny tunnels, got down the steps and turned back when saw it was pitch black!
Oh another we thought you'd find amusing, we went to get some new bits and bobs and were made up to get pantene, ritz, comfort washing stuff and pamolive showergel for $5 (2.50). Well we thought it was showergel no english on bottle, turns out we think it is dandruff shampoo as we all felt very tingly from the menthol and it did'nt lather up so we hav'nt had a proper wash with showergel in days! Then Sarah dropped new shampoo bottle down the toilet and had to fish it out, great! So we are'nt exactly the cleanest at the moment because we want to use it up!!!
Moving to Thailand at the weekend hopefully to get some sun and less minging pics, Amy's braids are finally going to come out we can't wait till she washes and brushes it ha ha!!
Love to everyone xxx.
