Seeing as our time in Sydney was coming to an end, we thought it was about time we went inside the Opera House, we took a tour on 14th March. The architecture was just phenomenal; but we weren't allowed to take too many photos as events were going on inside each of the theatres.
Sheens had a lovely Paddy's day with her Irish friend Deirdre and her friends in an Irish bar called the Mercantile at the Rocks. There were about four aussies in the whole place all night, but it was fun times!!
On the 20th we had Seema's work leaving night, we had to choose somewhere that under 18's could go to as she works with a few of them so we went to Luna Park which is a cross between Thorpe Park and pikey fairs that come to local parks. We met there about 8pm and had two hours of fun riding all the heart stopping rides. After Luna Park, the under 18s went home and the rest of us went to a bar in the Rocks. On the way there as we were leaving Luna Park we saw the ferry pull into the pier so we thought we would catch that but it pulled away just as we got there. A few minutes later a water taxi came to the dock and said he would take us across the harbour for $30 a head, we were like no we will wait for the $5 ferry, we then saw another water taxi pull up who said he would charge us $5 a head so we got in. We pulled up to Circular Quay and Seems' friend Codie asked someone to get off before her so they could help her get off so Seems tried to get off the boat....but what she didn't know was the driver hadn't docked the boat so she had one foot on the boat and the on the side and the boat was moving away from the dock!! So quick thinking she jumped back onto the boat and the driver did not look impressed, Seems thought she was going to fall in though!! Whilst all of us couldn't stop laughing the man was shouting at her to never do that again!! Let's just say she learnt a valuable lesson and will always check to see if a boat is docked properly!! After that debacle we spent the rest of the night dancing away in The Argyle.
The following day Seems had to work the whole day, so Sheens had a lazy day and then we went to Emer's house for a BBQ, the first typical Australian one we had been too!! The food was amazing and was well worth the wait.
We also had a bit of annoying news, the rucksacks we came over with had broken, and if we got them fixed there was no guarantee that they wouldn't break again, the zips just didn't hold together when there was nothing in the bags, and the front packs just came away from their zips and then wouldn't go back on. So we got in touch with the mother and asked her to call Millets and see what they could do. She got back to us and said if we brought them back they would see about a refund. Obviously that was not going to happen, so the following day we called the UK and asked them what they could do for us, but as it was Sunday that wasn't much to we had to wait until Monday night for us to speak to head office. So Sunday was spent going to about 15 camping shops in the city to see what we should buy.
So after work on the 23rd the both of us met at Circular Quay to take some night photos of the harbour and walk across the bridge. We were very lucky with the weather as the rain held off. The photos came out really well and we were very pleased. After we got home we called Millets head office and explained the situation, we then agreed on sending an e-mail with photos. We were very fortunate that they got back to us very promptly so they were able to give us a full refund, which meant we were not out of pocket for when we bought the new ones.
So with that kerfuffle out the way, on Tuesday the 24th we met again after work but this time at the Botanical gardens to take some photos of the sunset and skyline at dusk and then night.
As Friday approached that was Sheena's last day at work, she had a night planned out with work. They took her out to lunch which was unexpected lovely of them, and then drinks were under way at the local bar. Seems and Shenel came to meet her as well which then turned out to be an unforgettable night!! Let's just say Sheena's work friends are as mental as she is.
The night ended up in the Rocks again and the dancing shoes were out!!
The next Saturday was V festival which we were both looking forward too, we started the day with a good burger to help with all the drink from the night before and then we headed to Centennial Park (which luckily was only up the road for us) we got there in time to see Duffy start and then the day went like this, Elbow, Vanilla Ice, Razorlight, Madness, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol and then The Killers. May we just add The Killers were awesome and yes you read correctly Vanilla Ice, he was amazing, still looks the same and this was his first performance in a very long time. The day was scorching as well so a few rays were caught J
Sunday Seems had her last day at work, so again Sheens sorted out some stuff and then went to Bondi for some last minutes things and then she met Dee from work for a last catch up.
Monday came and went so quickly, we packed, sorted out a package to send home (by sea mail so will be home just before we get home) and then had a last mooch around the city. For us then to get home and find out there was a black out in the area we live, so we had no electricity, so first things first we got to the freezer and started eating the ice cream we had in there before it melted!! And then the house was getting too dark for us to cook there so we went out in the city for dinner, we decided on Wagamama's yes the very same you get in the UK and it was as yummy, but then we had to add to all the Belgian waffles we have had during our stay, so we decided to go to the last place we hadn't been to, Max Brennan and had an amazing chocolate waffle, for Seems to then realise that she had left her bad in Wagamama's, so we had to rush back to pick that up, lucky for her it was still in the same place and nothing had been taken!! And then when we got home the electricity had come back on, so we were able to do the last minute packing that we had left.
We needed to have an early night as the following day we were leaving for Tasmania at 6.30am.
