Ljublujana -16 May & 17 May
Day 12 (Continued)
I headed to Ljubljana in the go opti van ... Making a little small talk with an Italian heading to Trieste.
We stopped just before the Slovenian border at a service station where I had my first taste of Slovenia ... A crusty roll with curry schnitzel and capsicum! For service station food it was still good!
I arrived at Celica Art Hostel just before 10pm and at first had to check I was in the right place as it looked like an industrial area with graffiti everywhere!
It's ok he tells me - a party place!
The place was a former prison that in 1991 they wanted to tear down but the artists blocked their way and won! They have restored the building each artist doing a different room and turned it into a 'art hostel'.
I felt like it was still a prison when I was issued my bedding and directed to my cell (I mean dorm!).
Although it was a 12 bed room not all were taken and it was actually quite nice.
A couple of people were already hitting the hay but I headed downstairs for a couple of hours as there was a bar and had wifi.
I was invited out to a nearby party but passed ... I wasn't feeling up for it but in hindsight it would have been awesome to explore the area as apparently the nearby barracks have been taken over by squatters and they run clubs from there which is probably where he meant! :-)
Day 13
I passed on the cheap brekky at the hostel, stored my things and headed for town.
The local area was covered in very artistic graffiti giving it a really cool, edgy and industrial feel.
I found the sites of dragons bridge, cobblers and triple bridge easily but struggled to see a cafe anyone was eating at but noted people had beers at 930 on the morning!!!
I ended up finding somewhere that had a 'real English breakfast' which was interesting as never new they ate red kidney beans?!
It was nice to have something other than croissants so enjoyed my 3 eggs, waffle toast, mushrooms and red kidney beans all the same!
Service was incredibly slow but came to realise it was like that everywhere!!!
Next I went to the Ljubljana Castle via furnicular ... Randomly there was a kangaroo statue nearby?
So my first real still together castle!!!
It wasn't that exciting but nice views and am slowly learning about the history ...
Next stop some shops! H&M again!!!! Now have a new bikini, a belt that's not falling apart and the same skirt as I bought in Singapore in a different colour! (It was on sale?! 9€)
Back to the hostel where I got a tour of the rooms and remaining cells then 3pm bus from the station to Bled ...
Oh and I may have squeezed in a 5€ mojito at the hostel while waiting! I'm on holiday! ;-)
The countryside on the way to bled was stunning!
