Shaun on the Road
Hey all, here is another update. I changed my plans a little bit from KL in Malaysia. Instead of going to the east coast of Malaysia, I went straight to Singapore. Wow, what a clean city that is. I enjoyed it quite a bit. There is not a ton of stuff to see, but I spent about a day and a half wandering around the city, and checking out the sights. It is an absolute shoppers paradise, so before I bought anything, I decided that I better leave.
Like I said in my last postcard, I was able to get some flights to Japan, so I capitalized on that and flew into Tokyo. I got here on Friday evening and took the train into the city. It really is a big place. It took me nearly 2 hours to get to my stop. By this time it was fairly late and I had to wake up the staff to get a room. Fortunatly they didn`t throw me out onto the street.
The next day I toured the city, taking in the Imperial Palace and gardens, as well as checking out all the corporate displays they have here. Sony, Nissan, and Honda, among others, all have new products displays and a lot of it is pretty cool to seeHey all, here is another update. I changed my plans a little bit from KL in Malaysia. Sony, Nissan, and Honda, among others, all have new products displays and a lot of it is pretty cool to see. I went and saw one of the best fireworks displays ever that evening. It wasn`t a typical Canada Day show in Saskatoon, that`s for sure. It was a full on 90 minute production. Quite amazing.
The next day (which was yesterday) I found an English church to go to, and got invited out for lunch, which was good. I now know people in Tokyo. After lunch I decided to go to a town about 120 km from Tokyo called Nikko. There are a bunch of Temples and Shrines that I wanted to see, so I took a train up. Unfortunatly, no one told me that I had to change trains until a conductor came to check tickets. He told me that I had gone nine stops to far. I had to get off the train in a smaller town than than the one I grew up in, cross the platform and wait for the train coming the other way. I waited about half an hour, which wasn`t too bad. Got to the right station and changed for the 10 minute ride to Nikko.
This morning I took in the temples and will do some hiking this afternoon. I head back to Tokyo tomorrow morning and catch my flight to Australia tomorrow afternoon. I spend just under a month in the land down under before coming home.
