The clock went off at 5.00am we got up,breakfasted and this amazing 4wheeled drive bus picked us up at the door.
We were off to Frazer Island, the largest sand island in the world. It was a fantastic place. The beach on the eastern side was the highway and was 75km long. After crossing from the mainland on a small roll on roll of ferry we drove about 1/3rd of the way right along the edge of the sea then turned inland. The roads were definitely rough and we realised why we had such a beast of a vehicle to travel in. Apparently they have to change the shock absorbers every 3 months. Well we rocked and rolled for about 12km and ended up at at place called Lake Mackenzie where we were encouraged to swim whilst the driver/guide prepared our lunch. There were a few toilet/changing rooms and an area where you could eat. Rules were very strict on the island as it is a protected area and there were big fines for litter or taking anything from the area like shells or plants.
The swim in the lake was fabulous, it was supposed to have special pure water and if you rubbed the sand into your skin it was so fine it was the perfect exfoliation. My legs are now as soft as ever!
The lunch was a BBQ with fish or steak and sausage and salads. An excellent lunch apart from the local scavengers - kookaburra birds it seems are like stealth bombers and swept down and flew away with more than one sausage.
We then went back on the bus to a place called Central Station where the loggers of the 18th century once worked. It was there that the steps on our fancy bus refused to come down so we had to get on and off the bus using a large cool box as a step.
We got back to Noosa at about 5pm. Later we went out to the pub for dinner and we were all in bed by 10pm.
