One of the first sights I got to see here was the inside of a hospital. As I left the railway station at 5-30AM in search of a hotel I suddenly felt something clamping my leg at the knee. I turned around and saw a dog scurrying away, and as I shone the torch down, the back of my trousers was soaked in blood. I didn't feel the pain until later. My first reaction was sheer terror, as I had not had the rabies vaccine. Fortunately, it's a vaccine that can be given after the event, which meant a visit to the hospital where they dressed the wound and gave me the first of the five vaccine shots. I have to get the other four on specific dates, which will be a bit of a pain whilst I'm on the move. I partly blame myself for this incident though, as I've previously witnessed that the towns become the realm of dogs during the hours of darkness, and there are often sounds of angry dogs outside the windows at night. So I shouldn't really have been wandering around at that time. I won't do it again!
Jodhpur's colourful bazaar around the clock tower provided a useful spot to while away a couple of hours yesterday, and today I visited Mehrangarh Fort which is not dissimilar to the one at Jaisalmer, albeit smaller. And like Jaisalmer, the town looks pretty good from the rooftops at night with the floodlit fort and clock tower. It's a flying visit though. I'm leaving on a train to Mumbai tonight, which will take 17 hours.

Kim How terrifying!
Manish Patel Yes, that's one of the things that worry me when I visit India, one of the other things is the bullocks (or cows) trying to give you a head butt as you pass by them. Anyway looks like your having fun, and unlike other countries you can see it all relatively on the cheap. Mumbai - we always stay on Juhu beach. there's several hotels there. The Juhu hotel is cheap at around £30/night (this is Mumbai) and nearby there's the 4 Seasons. Where ever you are staying, spend an evening on Juhu, the beach hut snacks are great. If you feel like splashing out on a great feed, try my favourite restaurant "Mahesh's Fish" not cheap but the lobster is great.
Phil Yes, the cows are a worry too sometimes. Those horns could do some serious damage with one wrong move on the way past in a narrow alley. Never got up to Juhu unfortunately, but I did get to Chowpatty. You can't really go wrong for food in Mumbai though. Even the street food is top notch. And you're right about the costs. A weeks budget is gone in one day in Mumbai. It's like being in Europe.
