In Macdonalds using the free wifi- in a hurry so excuse crappy writing...
Im now going to attempt to write about the last 5months in Melbourne without boring you all! Basically- we love it! We thought we'd stay for 3 months max, but we are still here! We have come along way since we arrived back in November- homeless, pretty skint, umemployed etc...
Lina arrived just before us and sorted us out to be in the same dorm as her- Room 210!
And we were so lucky with that dorm- brilliant group who we became great friends with and still hang out lots with.
The three of us spent the first week job and flat hunting. Lina and I landed a job as waitresses in a crazily busy cafe in the city centre- Lina lasted 3 weeks, im still slaving away 5 months later, haha! Steven got jobs in a bar and a suit shop.
Moved into an amazing city centre flat and it felt so good to be settled for a bit after backpacking for the previous 3 months.
Melbourne is a fabulous city- full of interesting hidden lanes, covered in cafe's and lots going on- always! I am still finding hidden gems 5 months on!
We spent Christmas day on the beach and had a BBQ and for Hogmanay, we went to a Burlesque themed night at a club.
Lina left us to continue her travels in January and we were so sad to see her go. We had an amazing few months together and i loved having so much time with my gorgeous wee sister!
The lifestyle that the weather allows us to have here is unbelievable- beach days, rooftop bars, alfresco dining, openair cinemas, festivals, events......
We've made ourselves a big group of lovely friends (mostly scottish!). Our flat in the city with Lina was a bit of a party flat- always people over and lots of wine!
Two big highlights were the Australian Open- Andy Murray did amazing and i managed to see alot of tennis matches! And the other was the Australian Grand Prix- Button won! Such a buzz!
We had our trip home to Scotland in February which was so great- loved seeing everyone- miss you all!
When we returned to Melbourne we moved to a suburb called Brighton about 15mins by train to the city- Its a very posh, gorgeous beach suburb with lots of cute shops and cafes. We love it! We take walks around the area most evenings and stare at all the millionaires mansions- AMAZING! Steve runs along the beach most nights- though it's getting
dark earlier now as we're well into Autumn.
Melbourne definitely lives up to its title as 3rd most liveable city in the world- we just love it.
Its not the kind of city that you would necessarily love instantly - it's more of a city for living in than a city for sightseeing and short visits.
I take a train to the cafe now rather than walk but we live right at the train station so its pretty easy. Stevie works in a great job for the Department of Justice (he started in January) and it's going really well. It keeps getting extended and at the moment we are definitely here until 21st May.
We've been at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this week and we hope to do the Neighbours tour soon! We actually met quite a few of the neighbours
actors at a celebrity function where we worked in December.
I spent my 27th Birthday on the beach with 14 friends, great food and drinks- brilliant day!
That's it in a nutshell, lots of love Shanita and Steven xxx
