Shane and Sarah's Adventures
Hola, We are now in a town called Puno which is on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The bus ride from Bolivia was hassle free thankfully and only took 3 hours. Puno is a pretty little touristy town with some pretty plaza?s and markets with some great restaurants. The main point to stopping here is to visit lake Titicaca from the Peruvian side and witness the floating islands. Which we did! Today we got back from an overnight excursion by boat where we visited Uros (the floating islands). The Islands are actually floating and are carried with the currents around the lake. They are completely based with reeds (so the ground feels really stodgy when you tread), and the peoples boats and houses are also made from reeds. We then sailed on to Amantani Island where we stayed with a traditional family (who speak a native tongue) for the night. We ate traditional food (vegetarian) and went to their local hall (dressed in traditional clothes) and danced to folk music (check out the photos - Shane is actually dancing!). The next day we also visited Taquile Island, had lunch and then headed back to Puno. We now feel pretty lake Titicaca?d out so tomorrow we are jumping on a bus to Arequipa. More soon. Lots of love Sarah and Shane xxxx
