Hey all
After a fairly long and tiring journey from Nicaragua with a one night stay in Tegucigalpa the capital of Honduras, we have made to Copan Ruinas home of course to the Mayan Copan Ruins!
Nicaragua is a very beautiful country as the photos show, but it does have its downside. The country is still one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere so there are numerous street kids and beggars continuously hounding for money. A number of the men there show no respect towards females, constantly whistling and making noises even when accompanied by a male. One guy even grabbed Sarahs hand as we were walking down the road which nearly ended in blows!
Honduras is also a very beautiful country. The town Copan Ruinas is incredibly friendly and the ruins were somewhat different that we had seen before.
On a slight tangent, we continue to laugh at the inflexibility of restaurant staff. It is nearly impossible to order even the slightest variation from the menu. For example. and there are many, we once went to a small restaurant that had on their menu taosted sandwiches of all descriptions or a normal tuna sandwich. Sarah asked if she could have the tuna sandwich toasted...No, thats not possible sorry. Other times, restaurants that serve toasted sandwiches for lunch won´t comply with a request to toast the bread they serve at breakfast. Just yesterday we had eggs and toast and then decided we would like more toast, just toast. When we asked for this it was met with a blank stare and utter confusion. The girl then had to get another girl to help but she also couldn´t understand our request, so the manager had to come over and help. In the end we got the toast but got charged for a meal on the menu that is for toast and orange juice. You just can´t have toast! It can be so frustrating, especially after 8 months of it!
Off soon to Guatemala where we will spend a bit more time seeing the sights and doing some activites.
More soon.
