Buenos Todos,
You will have noticed the Guatemala Post Card photo of Pacaya Volcano which we were meant to go and see however as is often the case in Latin America nobody turned up to take us even though we had paid the money!
For the last 5 days we have been staying in the beautiful colonial town of Antigua where there is a maze of cobbled streets, crumbling ruins, beautiful churches on every corner and colourfully painted homes and shops line the streets. It has been incredibly easy to spend the days just strolling around and relaxing in the plaza and nice little coffee cafes.
Enjoyed one night out with some fellow travellers at a bar listening to one of the original members of the famous band - Buena Vista Social Club sing and play. Lots of people got up and salsa danced to the tunes which was great fun to watch. Afterwards we went to a small local bar where our friend Susie sang folk songs with her guitar to the bar.
Last night we witnessed the anual burning of the devil. It was a noisy atmosphere with strings of double-happy fireworks going off while a brass band played some happy tunes! The devil held a list of names and one name written down for the crowd to see was that of the local mayor!
Tomorrow we head to Lake Atitlan where we will spend Shanes Birthday.
More from us soon.
