We spent four days this time with our rental car. Each day we took a nice leisurely tour around the island, always stopping for a good portion of the day at our favourite part of Oahu...The North Shore. We made stops at Hale'iwa, Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and The Pipeline as well as stopping at one of our new favourite spots...the end of the road at Ka'ena State Park.
We had one interesting stop this year at Makaha with the car. Many of the beach access roads in the Makaha area are not the greatest and you always have to travel with care, especially with a rental. Well, this one particular day we stopped off at Makaha to catch some sun and ended up with quite the adventure. After pulling off to one of the beach access points, we found the parking lot to be quite full, so I had to turn around. Upon turning around I didn't notice the HUGE pothole that I was about to drive the car into...although I was warned by Meipsy to be careful. I ended up driving our little Prius into the pothole and sunk it in up to the bottom of the car. To add insult to injury, as I opened the door I jammed it into the pavement. Luckily there were a couple of tourists in the parking lot that came to help and we lifed the car up and out of the pothole. Much to our surprise, there was no visible damage done to the car and nothing was noticed (or mentioned) upon returning the car to the dealership.
Also during our time with our rental car we made sure to make a couple of stops at our favourite bakery, Leonard's, to get some freshly baked Malasadas for the road. We also made our first stop for dinner at the famous Rainbow Drive-In for some take-out for supper.
