I took a tour of the interesting rock formations near Tupiza. I got w/ the guide who was pretty quiet but played some funny Bolvian music from the girl group "Las Consentidas de Potosi" and he took me first to this type of natural tunnel that I walked through (el angosto). From there we went down to Entre Rios where 2 rivers converge. We had to walk a ways down to la Torre and on the way we saw some burros. We walked back and then back in the jeep up to Tupiza and down a different road through Quebrada Seca to a view of the town of Palquiza. There was also a small cemetery there. Then we went to Torojoy which was by a bridge and some water next to a pretty rock formation. Along the road we passed big trucks w/ tons of people in the back. The guide said that it was market day and the campesinos came from all over to sell & buy stuff at the Tupiza market. From there we went to Canon del Duende. It was a cute place w/ a natural arc. The last stop was Puerta del Diablo and Valle de los Machos. At the Puerta there was a large herd of goats. I climbed up & he took some pictures but they didn't turn out great. From there he drove me back to Tupiza and over the river into another part of town to leave me at the Cerro de la Cruz. I walked up it quickly in only 20 min. because I wanted to get up and back before dark. It was really beautiful and they had the 14 stations of the cross on the way up. At the top was an amazing view of the city and also of cerro Elefante. I walked all the way back and through the remains of the market. It was really fascinating. I stopped along the way for a cheap fruit licuado and a pastel de queso which was piece of dough fried in oil that puffed up into a big puffy half moon. It was good - better than the pizza I got for dinner w/out sauce!
