Varkala is one of the most amazing places I have been to in south India, especially in terms of beaches. There is golden sand nuzzling against stunning cliff tops and a fab surf. Given the fuss and madness of the north and the cities it was a joy to be able to relax here for a couple of days.
Our days mainly consisted of lazy wake up and breakfasts, sunbathing, shopping, more sunbathing then dinner. We also tried body boarding. On the first day we were rubbish but it was hilarious playing in the sea, attempting to get on the board before falling off into the warm water. On the second day, we mastered it. As the sun set, it saw us being pro's- that is being able to board all the way to the beach in synchronisation. The locals were so proud they all wanted their pictures with us. Or it may have been the fact that the surf kept pulling down our bikinis, but I would rather think it was our skill on the board.
Dinners consisted of scrummy fresh fish caught that day. The restaurants had them lined outside on coolers so you could choose the fish before choosing where to eat. Stunning place with stunning food.
Again shopping did appear on our agenda and I am now the proud owner of some lovely silver rings. All in all, this place was bliss.
