To get from Jaisalmer to Jodphur required an 8 hour local bus ride. By local, I mean local and a wee bit crowded. On one side, the bus had normal seats but then on the other side on the ceiling there appeared to be sleeping pods. In fact, these pods were there for Indian families to cram as many people as possible inside.
It was a hot and sticky ride, with every seat taken and people standing in the aisles. I was sat beside the window with George, a girl on my trip, sitting by the aisle. We were both napping when, all of a sudden, someone in the aisle decided to sit on Geroge's arm rest and pratically took half her space. They then proceeded to put their bag on her lap without asking! After about 10 mins like this, George was tapped on the shoulder and asked to move up so that someone else could share the seats with us!
We then saw Olly, another member of our group, jump into the aisle (no mean feat) because an Indian lady had reached across him to be sick out of the window! Olly kindly gave up his seat and the lady proceeded to sit down with a massive grin on her face. Mission accomplished me thinks!
Most of the windows were open due to the heat of the bus including the one next to me. I felt some wetness on my arm and realised that someone above me was being sick and it was flying in through the window. Lovely! Just to make the bus ride even more special, a fight broke out behind us. A very momentous trip!
However, we finally managed to arrive safely in the Blue City - so named due to the houses being painted blue to keep both the mosquitos away and to keep the houses cool. There is an impressive fort which, like good tourists, we went to visit and from there saw the impressive and stunning views of the city. We also spent time wandering round the bazzars 'bangling' (or bangle) shopping.
For evening entertainment we went to a local night club. More like a gentleman's club, it was an interesting experience. Indian women dont tend to go out, so it was mainly male dominated. When our group went to dance, the bouncers prevented any local boys going on to the dance floor so they simply stood around watching instead. Definitely an interesting experience and very much like being on parade. The food was excellent though and it was definitely good to get out.
