Being the organised soul that I am, my body decide to acquire Delhi Belly in advance (well actually about 1 hour before boarding for an 8 hour flight!). I therefore was not feeling tip top on arrival into Delhi, and may explain how I have found the capital!

My flight landed at about 5 o'clock in the morning and after getting through passport control and collecting baggage I was able to meet my driver at about 6 am to take me to the hotel.

The first thing you notice about Delhi driving is that there are no rules. Lanes do not exist. It is a free for all and you constantly have to beep your horn. It took about an hour and half to get to my hotel, because of the traffic and crazy driving, though I did manage to see an elephant wandering the streets and the odd cow!

On the whole, Delhi has not struck me as a place I would want to visit again. Buildings are either half built or falling down. It is hard to decide which. There is litter everywhere and rubble.

Sightwise we saw the largest Mosque in India which, when full of people praying I can imagine would be amazing, but when empty is not that ornate. A visit to a Sikh temple was more fascinating as the kitchens there are constantly making food for anyone and everyone - free of charge! A philosophy which really appeals.

I am sure there is more to Delhi and if you spent more days here you could see the beauty behind the dirty facade. For me, however, places like Jaisalmer, my next step, appeal so much more.
