Hello family and friends
After spending a few hectic days in Phnom Pehn we headed to a small town south called Kampot. It was very very quiet compared to most of, in fact all of the places we have been to so far. It was abit of a shock at first as there seemed absolutley nothing to do. Just a few resturants that lined the river, a bank, petrol station and 10 or so guest houses. It was the sort of place that travellers came and went quite quickly. Also a handful of western people had obviously set up home here. Although it was quiet we finally felt we were experiencing more of the real Cambodia and not the touristy big city's. We spent two quiet days wandering the town which was nice but boaring at times.
We managed to take a day trip to the Bokor mountain to see a collection of buildings (hotel, casino, church etc) at the very top built by the French in the 1920's as a holiday resort. Now these buildings are just ruins but the views at the top were spectacular. Its in a national park so you can see jungle all around you for miles and miles and finally the sea in the distance. We were so high up that we were in the clouds and in the morning couldn't see as much until they cleared in the afternoon. The sound from the jungle was just unbelievable, Sean said he could have sat their for hours just listening. Inside the buildings was very creepy and ghostly but we still had a good look around (even though you wasnt ment to). On the way back down Sean did a small jungle trek with some other guys and saw a large lizard and a snake arrrrr and then we both saw a monkey which was so cool to see it in its natural habitat compared to the ones all chained up. We tried to get a snap but it ran off (camara shy). We then got dropped off at the river where a boat took us back home, lovely scenic views of the mountains and small huts by the waterside where the locals fished.
Not to much to write about this place as I have said it was only very small. So our next stop is Sihanoukville so we can sunbath on the beach and top up our tans. Should only be a two hour trip so not to bad.
Lots of love
Jen and Sean
