Have just spent the day going round Sukkothai's historical park. It is really quite impressive and very atmospheric. Enough of it had been renovated to give you the understanding of how it might of looked in the 12h and 13th centuries but with enough left unfinished so that your imagination could do the rest. We returned to Chiang Mai yesterday after a peaceful couple of days in Pai. I have just spent today doing a Thai foot massage course which I have really enjoyed. It was quite hard work as you had to repeat everything so many times to help remember it but I hope it will be worth it. Heading South to Sukhothai tomorrow to see some ancient Khmer sites.

We took the bus to Pai on Monday morning which was another windy road through beautiful mountains but only for 3 hours this time. Pai is quite a sleepy and very laid back place although it does threaten to liven up later in the evening. Took the bus to Chiang Mai yesterday (Saturday). This is the first place that I have visited prior to this trip so far and it feels busier, more commercial and harsh than I remember it being before. think that probably says more about me and where we have been visiting than it does about Chiang Mai!
