We arrived in Bangkok yesterday morning, taking a train from Ayuthayya. At only 15 Baht or 30p I was quite wistful that my normal commute into a city didn't cost the same! We have ended up staying in Khao San Road, the backpacker centre of Bangkok, probably more for nostalgic reasons from me having stayed here over 20 years ago than for anything else. It certainly has changed! There are still bargain deals on accommodation to be had but the whole place has become commercial, bright and busy. Hey ho!
We had a couple of days in Bangkok in total but were quite choosy about which sites we saw partly because we had seen quite a lot when we were both here 3 years ago, that I had been twice before that and also because the city felt just too chaotic and busy for our liking right now. We did have a great trip on a river ferry, taking in a number of sites, including my favourite, Wat Arun and of course the Royal Palace. We also visited the Golden Mount and enjoyed the air conditioning and novelty of a shopping mall and department store.
