Had another early start yesterday to get the bus from Phnom Penh to Kratie in the North East Of Cambodia. The bus stops are amusing as you get to use the Asian style toilets (thank goodness they are badly lit normally) and to buy some fruit, water etc. The stalls have a range of stuff for sale but we have not felt the inclination to try the roasted crickets or giant spiders fried with garlic! Another bus journey to get us back to Phnom Penh yesterday which took up pretty much most of the day. Today has been spent dropping off passports at the Laos embassy and getting them back at the end of the day with shiny new visia ready for our next stop. Catching up on the internet and seeing the National Museum has kept us amused while we waited. Arrived in Battembang on Saturday having travelled up from Siem Reap by boat. The boat itself was quite an experience passing floating villages along the way. The journey took about 6 hours but can take as long as 9 hours as the season gets drier. Life along the Tonle Sap is very simple and the community seem to survive purely on fishing. Took an early bus on Wednesday morning to Siem Reap which is the town close by to Ankhor, the famous Ankhor Wat and many other impressive temples and sites. Having sorted a Tuk Tuk to take us round the temples for our visits we headed out the same afternoon to watch the sunset from a hill top, Phnom Batheny and got our first glimpses of Ankhor Wat. We arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, early afternoon yesterday. The boat journey from Chau Doc took about 5 hours and included quite a bit of waiting around at the border crossing, firstly to leave Vietnam and then 100 yards later to be issued with visa's to enter Cambodia.
