Thursday (10th)
Scott foraged through the neighborhood for breakfast, he found a bakery and came up trumps again. Had a full day of diving planned, we got picked up from our cabana in a golf cart and taken to Belize Diving Services. The guides and skipper were great with a good sense of humour even when Clare saw her breakfast cinnamon roll barfed over the side of the boat! we dived on Long Caye Canyons which was nice but the better reefs evaded us because of the strong winds. Swam through huge canyons of coral, a bit deeper than the stuff we'd just left behind in Florida, it was good to get some depth! We got back mid afternoon and had lunch at the Sandbox, then a well deserved kip. Had a walk around the island stopping for a few drinks and finished off with a BBQ dinner. Hooked then cooked BBQ Stylie on the roadside! Great.
Friday (11th)
To the bakery again for what is going to be our usual fine breakfast - Clare remembered the sea sick pills today. Dived Spanish reef, similar to yesterday but had a long time swimming with a friendly turtle (Video) We had lunch on the boat and got back mid afternoon for our usual nap. had a nice posh (island posh) dinner at 'Don Corleone' followed by drinks at the cabanas. Rums and cocktails (mudslide) were flowing well.
Saturday (12th)
Usual breakfast on the way to the dive shop and on to dive Gallows Point. Lush coral was everywhere and Clare made an extra buddy in the form of a 'shark sucker' attaching itself to her underbelly! Clare shrieked, Scott laughed. Saw the first shark of the Belize phase of the holiday sleeping under a coral shelf. Got a good video of Spotted Drum Fish swimming furiously(video). sat around the pool in the afternoon drinking cocktails and beer however the peace was shattered by the arrival of the Californian yoga witches (V.Loud). Dinner at Sid's followed by more booze back at the cabanas.
Sunday (13th)
Bakery closed - Noooo.... bacon and egg tortilla from pirates instead. Dived Hol Chan marine reserve it was fantastic. Lots of sharks during both dives and large groupers with lots of other marine life. Stopped at San Pedro on Ambergris Caye for lunch. Dinner at Herbal Tribe another BBQ style event. Lots of rum and back to the cabanas for more rum....
Monday (14th)
Blue hole dive and Turneffe Reef dive canceled because of the wind- no diving for us today. Back to bed then a walk over to sand box for lunch. decided to snorkel in the afternoon which was at Salt Canyon, Shark Ray Alley and Little Coral Garden. There was a very 'friendly' moray eel about 2 1/2 meters long defending his area diligently and chased us off with his big nasty teeth. At shark ray alley Scott was the first to fearlesly enter the water with 20 - Steve Irwin killer stingrays flying around the chest deep water! Clare soon followed and the frolicking rays were around her in a flash - brilliant . Took our dive kit to frenchy's dive center in anticipation of the blue hole dive the next day. Dinner at Habeneros, superb. Clare had 3 huge Stone Crab Claws which were both noisy and messy! Took an early night ready for the 5.30 am start - what holiday!
