Shayna's Adventures in Europe!
Just got into Barcelona last night. Spent the last couple of days in Florence, Italy. Our schedule was so jam-packed, I didn't get the chance to update. Florence was amazing though. It's actually in the Tuscan region, so we saw many beautiful rolling hills on the drive in. Saw just about every museum in the city. My favorite piece was Michelangelo's David-- it's 10 feet tall, plus it's up on a pedestal so it looks so much taller! Also saw tons of Renaissance and Humanist works-- Florence has definetely got the best art collection out of any of the places we've been. On our last night there, we climbed to the top of this big hill for an incredible view of the city, including the Florence Cathedral in the center of it all.
Florence is also a great place for shopping! I got some jewelry, a leather purse, some glass pieces, and more! And of course I had to fill up on gelato (ice cream), because this was our last stop in Italy. Overall, Italy turned out to be an incredibly diverse and culturally rich place-- I can easily see how people spend 3 or 4 weeks just touring that one country!
The last two days we spent driving from Florence to Barcelona, with a stop-over in Aix-en-Provence in southern France. The first day of traveling we drove right along the Mediterranean coast, got absolutely beautiful views of little village towns along the way. Even drove right past Monaco. The second day of driving we had some great views of the Pyrenees. It's amazing how so many different landscapes can be discovered in a short amount of time.
So finally, back to Barcelona. From what I've seen of the city so far, I love it. It's a mixing pot of so many different cultures. I've already found gelato, falafel and schwarma, burritos, paninis, and a KFC, just from walking around in the past hour. Can't wait to explore more.
Toured the Picasso Museum this morning. Saw Picasso develop from his early childhood drawings of people, still lifes, and landscapes into cubism. Very cool, one of my favority museums yet!
More on Barcelona later once I do a little more exploring. Internet is actually cheap here so I should be able to get on more often. Bye!
