Saz and Dave's travels
We woke up this morning feeling incredibly stiff and spent half an hour debating whether to go on the organised walk or not (the Cameronian Inn has a guest who invites any other guests out on walks with him). As we were so stiff (well mainly me) we decided not to go on it and do our own walk later, then I immediately went back to sleep. Sarah (as usual) wasn't too happy at this as she needed breakfast, so rudely woke me up and off we waddled to get some warm scones and tea.
Determined not to waste our last day here, we decided to go for another walk and over breakfast decided to go on route 9 as this was the easiest to find and the best marked.
After breakfast we put back on our shoes and toddle off to the start of the walk. As we had been told the path was pretty easy to find and we were soon back in the deep jungle feeling both excited and apprehensive being in the jungle on our own. After walking around for 1 hr we bumped into 3 American girls who reassured us that we were on he right path, but the path back to town was very steep. At this point, the path got very narrow and after negotiating the crossing of the 3 girls, Saz carefully crossed the narrow bit, however I had no such luck and fell over and slipped down the side of the path. Luckily I managed to grab onto some roots but couldn't get back onto the path and proceeded to get covered in mud as I slid around trying to clamber back up. After the initial shock of seeing me begin to slide down the valley wall, Sarah started laughing as she saw me struggling away and gave me a hand back onto the path.
When we reached the bottom, we were both slightly disappointed to see that the only real sight here was the hydro-electric power station. So after a quick rest, we started to steep climb back to Tanah Rata. At first the path was OK as it was paved steps up to the power station turbines, but after that, the path turned back to the tree root staircase and we quickly got tired of all the climbing. This path seemed even steeper than the mountain paths yesterday, but luckily didn't go up as far. We climbed for about 30 minutes until we arrived at a gate, which luckily was open, and which led back onto the start of the original path. Another 10 minutes further on, we reached a waterfall which wasn't as good as anticipated as there wasn't too much water falling from it and there was loads of discarded rubbish at the bottom of it.
From the waterfall, it wasn't too far back into town and when we got there went to a little cafe and had one of the nicest lunches we have had since we left England. The food was so good we decided to go back for tea later. The fact that you could get apple pie also helped to persuade Saz
We spent the rest of the afternoon trying to update the travel journal, which you can see wasn't very successful. We then went back to the T cafe for diner after another cold shower.
After we had eaten, we had to go back to the room and pack as we leave Tanah Rata for Kuala Lumpur at 9am tomorrow.
